We ordered take away and this is the first time we have tried since becoming Mike’s Tavern on the Nith. Had a tavern burger and fries and Cranberry walnut salad with chicken. The burger was VERY tasty and a nice portion, definitely homemade. Nice size salad and generous portion of chicken. Will be back! Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20 View all feedback.
What Chet R doesn't like about Mike's Tavern On The Nith:
I really want to like this place because it is local but I've been there several times now and the service keeps getting worse as does the food. This is a great place to go have a beer but I would steer clear if you're interested in half decent food or minimally competent service. View all feedback.
All around great experience with superb meals from scratch good attentive service and comfortable rustic ambiance. The liver and onions was just the way I like it and the bacon wrapping certainly the best bacon you will ever find. My wife really liked the fresh trout and the fries from local potatoes were excellent although rather a small serving if you are used to sharing. Prices are reasonable around $22 entrees unless you splurge for the steaks which are 60% more.

This restaurant is a little out of my way but it was well worth the trip. This is the place where I had the best steak of my life! Set in a quiet town, we had a beautiful drive getting there. When we arrived, we were greeted and sat immediately. The steaks ordered by the ounce, price was $2 per ounce. You can pick whichever cut you like. I have the prime rib and it was cooked to perfection! The decor is very clean, lots of wood and cowhide covered seating done in a tasteful way. The staff were very attentive and they had a great wine selection. This place is getting quite the reputation very quickly so would recommend making a reservation if going Saturday night. We went during the week and had no problems. The sticky toffee pudding was pretty good too. Definitely a place I will bring my parents to when they visit from England. Unique with excellent food!
This is one of the out of the way places in Waterloo Region that is worth the drive. Situated in Wellesley, a community known for apple related products, this is probably the go to restaurant in town. On arrival, you note the decor appears to be salvaged from a barn. The inside is definitely set as a goth/country style. I say goth because you are sitting on cowhide benches surrounded by saws and scythes. I am sure that the intention wasn't to display sharp objects everywhere, but you get the idea. This place is definitely meat centric. Vegetarians, continue on by. To explain this a little further one only has to look at the menu. There is meat everywhere. I am not sure where they are storing all this meat, but there appears to be a lot of it. For instance; the salads yes, salads have lettuce. Most restaurants also offer the option of adding chicken. Some also offer salmon. This restaurant includes both options and adds beef as a choice. But it doesn't stop there they also offer sausage. Sausage on salad? Why not? Onto the main course. There are a lot of options on the set menu, and they all looked great. One of the more interesting stand outs was the ABC burger. You may have guessed that the B&C stand for bacon and cheddar cheese. A is apple butter. Wellesley is famous for apples remember? While I didn't try this one, it is on my radar. Another interesting option on the menu was the pick your own meat. At $2 an ounce, you can easily order whatever suits your fancy for the evening. For my meal, I ordered the 12oz rib eye. It was served on a carving board with a great side of mashed potatoes and veggies. The steak was easily in the top 5 I have had at a restaurant. The flavour was fantastic, if slightly over seasoned with salt. It was perfectly cooked and very tender. The restaurant boasts that the meat is hung for at least 21 days. Fans of The Keg have more money than brains. Real meat eaters know that their steaks aren't extraordinary, just a conveniently mediocre stop gap for those times your own gas grill dies or is entombed in ice. The downer to this place was the service. Our waitress was a bit of a noob, which is understandable. Everyone has to start somewhere. Failing to clear the table after dinner and having no skill at opening a bottle of wine were disappointing. She also screwed up the order, but that is life I suppose. Prices are reasonable. The burgers are $11. Steak $2/oz, the special that night was a pork chop dinner for $16, etc. This place will be easy on your wallet but hard on your waistline. You won't leave hungry. I look forward to my next visit.
Had a great dinner here last night... Friendly staff, Cozy Table. Best Steaks outside of our Kitchen and a find selection of Local beer on tap. Will be adding this to the list of favourite restaurants inn Waterloo.
