Interesting, quirky restaurant with its very own 'Captain' welcoming the different cargo ships entering Hamburg port and entertaining its clientele.Sat outside as it was a glorious day and ate off the Beer Garden menu - pulled pork burgers. Then tried one of the delicious looking desserts that I kept seeing brought out to other restaurant goers! I went for the hazelnut cake covered in marzipan mmm ...Very good servic... What User doesn't like about Schulauer Fahrhaus - Willkomm-Hoft:
Ordered an Alster, beer with lemonade and my mum a cappuccino with a glass of water on the side. They mixed the order up and put the water in the beer instead of the lemonade. After we asked them to bring a normal Alster they just put a little bit lemonade inside the watered down beer.. now I got beer with water and lemonade... not a real Alster. Unacceptable! We were invited to a 50th birthday celebration at Schulauer Fahrhaus. The restaurant is large - we were a party of around 80, with other rooms receiving other smaller parties as well as a good sized wedding. Location: awesome, on the banks of the Elbe, and a historic welcome point for ships, as others have described. Decor: the room was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Beneath the garlands and tinsel, the style was relatively dull.Food: superb buffet. I enjoyed the cold cuts and then the duck especially.Service: good, efficient, friendly but not fussy or over attentive - vital in a party like that. Verdict: I would like to come back - in daylight and in summer!
Went there for brunch with the family one Sunday morning a few weeks back and enjoyed thoroughly the atmosphere the cuisine and the impeccable staff. It takes a while (along small streets) to get to the place when starting from downtown Hamburg but the trip will prove worth your while.
This place is famous for welcoming ships into the port of Hamburg.Every time a big ship passes they say hello and play the national anthem, followed by detailed technical information about the ship.Big terrace, prices are fairly high, service was good and friendly. All looks pretty new, like recently renovated. It started raining, but 10 minutes before they had closed a transparent curtain, so you still could see the ships very well. Our kids adored the place and we stayed for a good hour or so.One minus point is you have to pay 0,70€ per hour for the parking. Do not forget to present your ticket to the service, otherwise it is 2€ per hour. I guess that due to a lack of public parking in the area they need to close their parking off, but it should be inclusive for customers. All in all an interesting classic, but I am not sure if I will be back.
Had a superb time at this location, especially in the sun; verly lifely and busy, but staff was still friendly; every now and then a ship passes and is explained where it comes from and under which management it is travelling...
What a lovely spot on the banks of the Elbe - watching the ships going in and out of the port of Hamburg. Each ship is greeted or said farewell to over a loud speaker which then plays the country of registration's national anthem! The restaurant and café are brilliantly positioned with a terrace - so perfect viewing even on an inclement day. Excellent coffee and cakes plus the restaurant food looked inviting ta the open visible pass.
