What C Salinas doesn't like about Big Al's Down The Hatch:
Waste of time and money. The fries were good and my sisters liked the wings but the burger wasn?t good and I got the cheese fries that had some horrible yellow liquid that was supposed to be cheese ??? Questionable if it was actually cheese. Waitress was ok. So many good places to spend my money I feel stupid for wasting it here View all feedback.
It was a complete waste of time and money. The fries were enjoyable, and my sisters liked the wings, but the burger was disappointing. I also ordered the cheese fries, which came with a questionable yellow liquid that was supposedly cheese—I'm not even sure if it was real cheese. The waitress was just okay. There are so many better places to spend my money, and I regret wasting it here.
Came in on a Friday evening with a 16 person group. They were prepared, happy to see us, and took care of our every need with a smile. The food was great, prepared well, and it all came out at the same time so we were able to really eat together. The staff were very professional and anticipated all of our wants and needs. You have to try the BIG soft pretzels! Also Big Al's Balls are good too! Very nice location with indoor, outdoor seating and music/entertainment venue space. Located on the historic square in downtown Waxahachie, come check this place out.
We were going to another place in Waxahachie but it wasn't available. Our friends, who were in Waxahachie 30 minutes before us, scoped out the square and decided on Big Al's. When I came in, my eyes took a while to adjust so I missed the photos on the wall. As we sat down, our friends said it was Al from the radio's restaurant. I looked at the menu and his caricature let me know it was my friend of over 30 years. (I even drove for him when he owned First Impressions. I am so happy have had Big Al's Balls. Tasty!
Stopped for brunch today and was not very impressed with the food. Service was friendly and attentive but food definitely was not worth what we paid. Biscuits and gravy, they were shelf stable biscuits warmed up and grave was plain. They only added a splash of the gravy on each biscuit.. Eggs, dry and tasted like the scrambled eggs I had when I served in the Army. Hashbrowns, were soggy and not even cooked consistently through. Was informed this was a good placed to grab a bite but I highly recommend the owner finds a new cook or entire cooking staff. Also recommend buying better ingredients, food products and not cut corners with such high prices already in place. Waffle house is better right now.
We had high hopes for this place, especially since we love Big AL, but it didn’t quite meet our expectations. It took over 20 minutes before we received any service, despite the fact that only about a dozen tables were available and two-thirds were empty. We ordered a variety of appetizers, which were generally good, but that’s where the positivity ended. My main dish, the chicken and waffle meal, arrived cold and soft. My husband’s BBQ sandwich was overcooked and dry. While the atmosphere is charming and perfect for a cozy neighborhood spot, I recommend dining at home before visiting.
