Friars - Waverley
Friars
Description
The local fish and chip shop has garnered a mixed reception lately, with fresh fish cooked to perfection often praised. However, issues such as inconsistent chip quality, rude service, and cleanliness detract from the experience. While some diners report on the delightful freshness and generous portions, others lament long wait times and high prices for smaller-than-expected portions. Customers have expressed disappointment with managerial behavior, leading to lost loyalty. Despite these concerns, there are still fans who appreciate the takeaway options and variety offered, showcasing potential for improvement amidst the criticism.

I was waiting for my food and the owner who was frying spoke to his Wife like she was a bit of dirt on his shoe, swearing at her also. This was in front of myself and on other customer. When my food was ready I said to him please don’t talk to your wife in that manner, especially in front of your customers. I was told to get out or be knocked out. Never heard anything like it. I have been using this fish and chip shop for the last 10 Years. Not anymore. Just in case they respond and say anything, the two ladies outside stated at least one of us can be gentleman. Frankie’s at Grayshott going forward.
A perfectly cooked meal. Fish was large portions. The batter was cooked to perfection and lovely chips. Excellent value and large portions. Much better than my local fish and chips in Grayshott
Used to visit regularly and it was fab but new owners/managers have really let it go. Looks grubby, rude staff, long wait and owner talking on mobile phone whilst serving food. That is not very hygienic. Definitely won’t be back and will use Frankie’s at Grayshott. Remove the grotty table in front of the counter and give your restaurant a good clean, it certainly needs it.
I always stop by this restaurant for their delicious Large Cod and Chips. They offer a variety of drinks, including cream soda. Their Jumbo sausages and spring rolls are also tasty. It's definitely worth a visit, and you can call ahead to place your order for collection. They also now offer local delivery.
I have had chips from this restaurant before and was satisfied. Recently, I ordered the 'large' cod and found it to be extremely expensive for the portion size. It was not as big as expected for the price of £7. The food was cooked decently. The staff seemed nice, but there was an issue with the delivery. The delivery person got 'lost' and ended up driving around for an extra 40 minutes, causing our food to arrive cold. I had to call the shop after 30 minutes to check on the status of my order, and they assured me it would arrive soon, but it took another hour. This was disappointing as I had better experiences in the past. The portion sizes were not worth the cost, and I was left wondering how small the medium cod would be if this was considered large. I may consider ordering chips again in the future, but overall, it was a letdown.
