We always love what we get. This morning we arrived a little after 9:00 and they were almost sold out. Not good for business when you don’t make enough to last on a Sunday morning. We were disappointed in the selection.
I needed to go to Waterloo for a work errand. I decided to pick up a pizza from Ahne's Bakery while I was there. Why not right? I called in my order and they told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. I'm sure I got there in about 10 minutes and waited a few for it to come out. It smelled great in there and of course I left with cookies in addition to my pepperoni and bacon pizza. Very yeasty proofed crust, sauce, and mozzarella cheese. I did not order it well done but was glad they left it in so it got a little brown. I like some color on the pizza crust. There was nothing St. Louis style about this pizza but it was really fresh, extremely hot, and the dough was great! If you're in Waterloo at lunchtime give this a try!
Ahne's Bakery is the place for the best Hometown Donuts (chocolate long John and glazed! , Pastries (German chocolate is my FAV, coffee cake, Danes (try all petites! biscuits, breads (and THE BEST ham/Hot Dog rolls around, cakes and custom cakes! Did I mention they bring back the fried chicken dinner on Sundays? Hallelujah!
Absolutely amazing! Hands down the best bakery in southern Illinois. I cannot think of a better place to find doughnuts or danishes. Only downside is that you must show up early if you want glazed doughnuts because they sell out pretty quickly, butit's definitely worth it.
