Ross Chippy
Description
This local chippy offers a mix of experiences that reflect both potential and room for improvement. The couple running the place bring a warm, familiar vibe reminiscent of earlier days in the industry, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The shop is clean, well-lit, and has plenty of seating, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy a meal. The chips are a highlight when fresh, made from nice potatoes and cooked in clean oil. While waiting times can vary, fresh chips are worth it, scoring near perfect when served hot. The fish is standard frozen fare but cooked well, with a batter that strikes a good balance in thickness and flavour—original with a slight twist. The salt and pepper chicken is praised for generous portions and quality, alongside friendly staff and reasonable prices. Food is cooked to order, which is always a positive. That said, some reviews mention inconsistent experiences, including issues with gravy texture and taste, overcooked items, and stale bread. The menu isn’t available online and is only displayed inside, which may be inconvenient for some. Overall, this chippy shows good potential with friendly service and classic offerings done right, but quality can sometimes be hit or miss. Still, it’s a decent spot worth trying for a satisfying fish and chips fix or some well-seasoned chicken.

Best salt and pepper chicken I've had nice chunky chicken and nice portion . Really friendly staff and average prices. Would recommend.
Polite and friendly staff and good prices. Really enjoyed the food. Definitely be returning. Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner
Possibly the WORST chippy I’ve ever had, the gravy was the colour of engine oil (and tasted how I imagine it would) not so mushy cold crunchy peas, and the chips tasted as though the oil has been used 5254252 times previously. Even the barm cake was stale. waste of money as thrown straight in the bin! AVOID
The last few meals from here have been terrible. Stodgy and non existent fish just batter. Won’t be going there again. Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £1–10
When the fish came out from the back in a baking tray I knew I was in trouble , pre cooked warmed up fish and chips , the fryers weren't even switched on, soggy pre cooked garbage avoid if you like fresh food they should give it up if they can't be bothered cooking from scratch Price per person: £1–10 Food: 1
