The food was excellent and service was friendly, but slow. Beautiful and creative decor, but the buzz of conversations a bit loud. Great for a casual gathering of friends for a great meal.
We went on a Thursday night about 7 and the restaurant had only about 4 tables of people. A few more came during our stay. The drinks tasted watered down. The fried chicken was good but the mac and cheese that came with it was cold. Service was ok but the person who delivered our food did not clear starter plates first so there was no where to set the food. It took a while before our waiter returned to check on things and take a new beverage order.
Dropped in after a lecture on the Great Migration at the Smithsonian. Was surprised at how empty the restaurant was even for late on a Wednesday evening. Service was efficient and friendly. My girlfriend noted that on our last visit we saw Dick Gregory at another table and she regretted that she hadn't walked over to greet him. That became poignant when the comedian died a few days later.
The cuisine was both inventive and tasty. Despite visiting on a quiet Sunday, the service was lacking with a waitress who seemed disinterested and took a long time to bring us menus. Fortunately, the food arrived promptly and was truly outstanding. Perhaps our server was just having an off day.
