Bresca offers a Michelin-starred experience in DC. The tasting menu is long but the food is good, with some salty dishes. Service is generally attentive, but there were issues with the delivery and explanation of the food. The wine list is pricey. The atmosphere is loud and some felt the portion sizes were small. Overall, Chef Ryan's creativity shines through in this modern yet cozy spot, making it a must-visit for a special occasion in the District. Dietary restrictions are handled well, but value may be lacking for some due to high prices.
The food and service at this restaurant are excellent. However, the noise level is so high that having a conversation without shouting is impossible. I unfortunately will not be returning, as it is unfair to pay a significant amount of money and not be able to have a peaceful conversation.
I cannot fully put into words how much I enjoyed my dining experience at Bresca. As soon as you step through the door, you are greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that combines the feel of a cozy neighborhood bistro with an air of refined elegance. The décor, complete with green moss walls and charming goldfish decorations, is both fun and creative, creating a bright and relaxing setting. The service was outstanding. Our sommelier provided expert guidance, suggesting a perfect Reserva Rioja wine to complement our dry-aged duck and wagyu beef. Our server, Matt, delivered impeccable service, ensuring that all eight of us were served simultaneously with all plates cleared at once. Matt even went above and beyond by holding our plates warm when one guest needed to step away briefly. What truly stood out was Chef Ryan Ratino’s innovative approach in combining Eastern and Western culinary techniques to elevate traditional French dishes. My favorite of the night was the Potato Pierogi, with its velvety snap pea and ricotta filling reflecting Chef Ryan’s dedication to seasonal ingredients. The dish truly tasted like summer. The Diver Scallop dish was another highlight, featuring a delightful crunch from hazelnuts and a wonderful umami flavor from Japanese ingredients like kombu and shiso. The sauce was so delicious that I was tempted to lick the plate clean! Food has a way of bringing people together, and my dining experience at Bresca was no exception. I dined with a group of businessmen from Taiwan during the Select USA summit, and we were all impressed with our meal. Everyone agreed that it was one of the best dining experiences they had ever had in the USA. Many thanks to Chef Ryan, Manager Tobias Froehlich, and Matt for creating such an unforgettable experience. Bresca is truly a place where memories are made.
Super disappointed all around we splurged on all fronts and the experience didn’t remotely match the extensive price we paid. Truly truly disappointing.
We were given a great table after I had requested a quiet space in my reservation but it was still a loud restaurant due to the close spacing of tables and the high metal ceiling. The service was very attentive and professional and accommodating The Chef's tasting menu took a very long time, which is good as far as preserving your appetite but was too long to sit in one place (we were there from 6:30-1000) There are 2 dinner entrees on the tasting menus, 1 too many in my opinion or they should be both be smaller portions The wine list is very expensive, with almost no bottles under $100
