Creative Grounds Dc - Washington DC
Creative Grounds Dc
Description
Nestled in DC, this beloved Black‑owned neighborhood coffee shop serves consistent espresso, a praised homemade iced chai, fresh pastries, and a comfortable indoor/outdoor setup with a long communal table and convenient walk‑up window. Rotating local art and neo‑soul playlists give it personality; staff are generally friendly and welcoming. Complaints include a limited food menu, occasional shortages, a powdery matcha, and intermittent noise, lighting/cleaning‑product odors, plus a recent controversial window sign that left some patrons unsettled.

This is a true neighborhood coffee shop. The staff is kind and welcoming. The rotating art on the walls is done by local artists, and often students and children. There’s indoor and outdoor seating you’re actually welcome to hang out in and work from home, with a long table conducive to community organizing.
We were here for a 6th birthday party and were very impressed — great decorations and art activities downstairs in an air conditioned area for the kids, and a nice space for parents to hang up upstairs. Asmara and her son were superb party hosts in running the art activities, with a thoughtful theme and attention to every child by name, and the kids left with great goodie bags of their own work as a result!
We just hosted a child's party in the downstairs party room, and I seriously can't say enough good things! All of the parents in attendance were truly delighted to be able to hang out upstairs and sip coffee while the kids made their masterpieces (and Asmara and her staff are so joyful about the art making! . They truly took care of everything we just showed up with cake and ourselves. HIGHLY recommend!
