Description

Wisco is a charming island coffeehouse that doubles as a candy shop and casual breakfast spot. Known for warm, friendly service, a cozy skylit interior with a fireplace, and surprisingly excellent gluten‑free and egg sandwiches, it’s a dependable off‑season refuge for hikers and tourists. Pastries and cold treats shine in summer; some guests report inconsistent espresso quality and a preference for pre‑made sandwiches rather than toasted paninis. Fully accessible with no stairs, it’s beloved for atmosphere and hospitality even when the coffee divides opinion.

Regarding Peet's, I remember thinking in 1981, "Why would anyone go there?" Turns out, they had excellent coffee. The baristas who later moved to Seattle and emulated Peet's succeeded with Starbucks because they created a delightful atmosphere for their first café in Seattle, similar to the ambiance of the Berkeley cafés. I have no problem with Starbucks and Peet's; their coffee is good. However, if you're looking for something significantly better, Wisco is the place to go. It’s exceptional, featuring a beautiful skylight and a cozy fireplace. If you visit that charming island, don’t miss Wisco. And just to clarify, I don’t work for Wisco—I only met the owner for the first time yesterday. As for accessibility, I have a foot injury and rely on a hiking pole, so I was pleased to find that Wisco has no stairs, making it easy to get in and out. I walked there from my hotel, and the island is perfect for long walks, offering miles and miles of scenic routes.

Wow!!! The staff was so friendly and helpful even when we came in shortly before closing. The drinks were great and the almond pastry was amazing!! I will dream of more. They also kindly offered to send me a penny once the press is fixed if I mail them my info/ change. Thanks so much!

This charming local coffee house on the island is truly a gem. The coffee is exceptional, and the staff provides great service. It's wonderful that they're open even in the off-season. They also have a lovely little candy shop in the back, along with refreshing cold treats available during the summer months.

Couldn't find a decent cup of coffee or a place to have breakfast on the island. Saw somebody standing out with a big old copy in front of this wisco guessed it was a coffee place. Been open a year or so I guess. Cute! Inside mix of candy, coffee and wrapped aluminum foil pre-made sandwiches. I took a pass. I didn't think the gas station presentation of pre-made sandwiches is my cup of tea. It's not hard to buy a panini machine and just toast an egg sandwich up but that's for another day. The coffee was so so I can't tell if it's the terrible water on island the limestone aquifers it comes from or the grind of coffee that these places have? My cinnamon roll was covered with a cream cheese topping kind of different. When I asked if it could be warmed up. I see why they politely refuse to do so, but maybe they should try a classic take on a cinnamon roll with a sugar frosting but I'm not running the place!

I visited during the winter and gave this restaurant 4 stars simply for staying open during the off-season. I can only imagine how lively it must be during the peak tourist months. My wife and I enjoyed egg sandwiches and coffee, both of which were quite good. Thank you for being open in the winter!
