What User doesn't like about The Blacksmith:
It was busy, one plate ? was very under cook, like raw raw and we like mediumrare.. Overall food was okay. The environment was great. Staff was polite, but table next to us got food compt and free dessert for that screw up. We got nothing at all. Just a togo for the dinner that showed up correctly after everyone else was done and ready to go. View all feedback.
We have been to this restaurant several times and have always enjoyed the affordable prices and consistently delicious food. We love the atmosphere of the old building. During our last visit on April 23rd, my partner had the ribeye and I had the ribs, both cooked perfectly rare as we prefer. Our server Kelsey was attentive and friendly, and we also appreciated the manager Jenna who listened to our feedback (which was mostly positive). Another server we really enjoyed was Ross Fuller. Overall, we highly recommend this restaurant!
As a steak enthusiast, I truly enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. The menu was unique and the atmosphere was fantastic. Kudos to the chef and the friendly staff. I will definitely be returning on my next trip.
After checking in at the Cornerstone Inn, we strolled down to the Blacksmith Restaurant. We didn't have a reservation (knowing it would likely be busy on a Friday night in a small Illinois town) but they were able to seat us after shuffling some tables around. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The kitchen is located in the room where the bank safe used to be, with the safe door still visible. The food was quite good - I tried the smoked brisket and it was delicious, while my daughter enjoyed the Pakistani chicken salad. Unfortunately, my husband wasn't feeling well which put a damper on the evening, but I was able to relax with a whiskey and admire the photos, artifacts, and history displayed on the walls. If you're staying at the Cornerstone Inn, be sure to make a reservation at the Blacksmith Restaurant. It's cozy, charming, and steeped in history, with a cool and inviting atmosphere.
Fun, interesting drinking and escaping. menu is kreatiw and varied. quality service and personal. I propose a reservation.
Before I continue with my review, I must mention that I love supporting local, small businesses. My intention on leaving a less than four star review (I would have left 2.5 stars, but rounded up) is never to jeopardize the reputation of the restaurant. However, as a consumer that appreciates honest reviews, I must leave truthful feedback. My experience is a reflection of a carry out order from last week. Here were a few concerns that I had.1. You may want to call before you go to The Blacksmith. According to their Google Hours they are open until 9:30pm, and I called between 7-7:30pm to place an order for carry out. I was respectfully informed that my order needs to be placed by 8pm because they were slow, and would be closing early. I was surprised to hear this as they open at 4pm. Unreliable hours are something that as a customer I can get frustrated with (especially if it's not noted on their Google Business Profile). On another occasion, my husband and I wanted to go there for a date night at around the same time in the evening, and were turned away (this was a couple of months ago).2. Their menu may not be a reliable source of information. As part of my order, I got a side salad. What I was expecting as detailed exactly by their menu: SIDE SALAD Greens, tomato, cucumbers, red onions, eggs, cheese blend and croutons What I received: Greens with a couple of chunks of cucumbers.I was also surprised that the side salad was $5. Very sub par quality for what the price is. I would pay $5 for a great side salad, but I wouldn't have even expected to pay $1.50 for what I received.3. I also tried the Ribeye Steak Sandwich. I was looking forward to a larger, tender piece of meat on a fresh hoagie, but was disappointed when I received small, not-so-tender pieces of meat on a dry hoagie bun.4. Their French Onion Soup was a plus for me! It was not too salty, and had a hint of sweetness to it. And I believe it would have been even better if I had eaten it in the restaurant!I am hoping that my experience isn't an accurate representation of The Blacksmith as I had high hopes for a well marketed, nice restaurant.
