Two friends and I have been with the travellers rest for many years, but that was the first time since the pandemic. I think it's a new thing. we have ordered a bottle of red wine (primitivo) that we. before and is excellent. I ordered crabs/prawn cocktail, which was in order, but the fried king of my friend prawns in a chili and garlic cream sauce looked great and he said it was and I will try it when we go. the other starter was wild mushrooms that my other friend said was very spicy but very filling for a starter course. all three had Sirloin steaks, which were cooked with medium seldom on request. we agreed that they did not compare quality with the ripening eyes that were on the menu two or three years ago. They were okay, but a bit cheesy. Maybe there was a change of the metzger (I had two pots of ice to finish and a friend had the cheesecake, then coffee and in my case a martell cognac to finish the meal. a care was that I noticed during the booking that after two hours there was a request to leave the table, this concerned me as we usually book a table for 6.45 clock and leave at 9.30 clock. because the bill was £170 and it was a Thursday, I think that part of the amendment should be made. I spoke to a waiter who explained the Covid problems and that many people who book chose days and days off and they needed the two-stage agreement to satisfy the number of bookings in these difficult times. I understand, and there was no question to hurry, but perhaps we will be normal again now, to limit these terms to their most busy times. the service was first-class and friendly and we made the feeling that we had a good meal at a not inappropriate price. they will resume their usual 5 stars when the choices, or cut meat. improvement before we go back, which will be soon. I hope the management takes the points I have made helpful.
This is an excellent restaurant. The staff are welcoming, friendly efficient. All of our food was so delicious. I had a new special; Spanish style chicken chorizo pie which had absolutely amazing flavours, so huge commendations to the chef. Overall a delightful experience.
If you’re wondering where to go for a great home cooked meal, book a table here!! This is our ‘go to’ as a family, we know it will be great everyone is always happy. I guess word has got around as it’s always pretty...busy, advise booking in advance especially on a Sunday. The food is consistently delicious, good size portions!! The staff are always friendly efficient even when it’s very busy. Today we went for Mother’s Day, such a great choice on the 3 course menu, the roast beef dinner was so tasty, lots of beef with proper gravy! We had homemade lemon cake which everyone really enjoyed. If you get chance, order their cheesecake it’s superb! Unfortunately my husband tested positive for covid earlier in the week couldn’t go. I mentioned this to Lauren on arrival she kindly boxed up the 3 course meal to go, very happy husband when I got home! The travellers team are fantastic! Thank you for going above beyond! See you soon!

We were a party of 3. order them gammon, fish and chips and a Linguini court. the gammon and fish was nice, but my linguini, although tasty was a very small part. Not sure that my 8-year-old enkel had been full after eating....When 2 workers were disappointed about the portion size and both said I'm sorry and went away. Why ask if everything is in order, then they just go away when they throw up a problem. have not been going back
