Discovered it sort of by accident because, like others, we intended to go to the Westvleteren restaurant nearby but it was closed (on Fridays?? . So we had lunch instead at a place in town, 't Molenhof, which ended up being really excellent with local beers on tap, including the Vleteren 12 from Deca, and it 's fantastic. So we ended up going to the brewery a few minutes away and bought enough that they threw in the cool glasses for free. All in all, a great day and we hope to be back.

We sampled numerous beers at the end of the tour whilst the childr... read more We had a guided tour by George. It was great to see this charming, historic brewery up close. We sampled numerous beers at the end of the tour whilst the children enjoyed ice cream. This was obviously followed by our second trip to the brewery shop. The whiskey infused beer is without doubt the best I've tasted and very reasonably priced. Lovely people, the best beer... we'll need to have another holiday so we can return!

Nikolas fifth generation) showed us the brewing vessels with an informative explanation on the different types of hops and barley used to brew the various beers of different strengths. He explained the water options and bottling machines. Followed by a tasting session where we could chose from the several Deca beers. This was a really good visit and recommended.
