As a New Jersey native, this was a wonderful taste of home! The authentic NJ/NYC atmosphere was such a surprise to find tucked away in a Virginia Beach strip mall. Our server, Nancy, was a gem. She was warm and friendly with a quick sense of humor. But all of this was overshadowed by the most amazing rueben I have ever had. Ginormous and generous and perfectly designed. Definitely a must try. Ordered the Rueben Dogs with coleslaw instead of sauerkraut and was highly satisfied. The desserts are above and beyond. Will definitely be back!
This place has been shut down for quite some time. I 've been here quite a few times. I 've turned other people on to this place. I talk about this place all the time when I 'm referring to 'Disco Fries '. I can 't really prove anything without the place being open. I know it 's a hard thing and hard times to deal with a very important person who made this place what it is and was. He is gone and he made many people such as I, very happy. There are a lot of people who miss Jeff. He will always be missed. Not until Rt 58 opens again for the people who miss him the most. The food! The atmosphere! The greatness he brought to the food industry in Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads! I can no longer describe to people about the size of reubens and sandwiches in general without these same people seeing them for themselves. It is only fair to those people that this journey was never false in any way, but the truth about the great food we miss so much! Please as I try to speak for every fan of RT 58 deli, please come back and bring back that happiness to the people you made happy!
I wanted to try this restaurant. So we did a takeout order. When we walked in to get our food it felt like the whole restaurant turned around to stare. It was a little weird. So we ordered the chili dogs with slaw and fries, a side of cheese, a drink, and red velvet cake. My sister got the turkey and roast beef sandwich with fries and a piece of cheesecake. While we waited we looked at all the desserts and foods in the display. They were huge slices. They are about $14 a piece so i had high expectations. Both our meals were almost $50 each. So i will say it can add up quickly. When i got home i couldn't wait to taste it. The reviews seemed pretty good. The hot dogs didn't have much flavor at all even with all the toppings. The fries were good but the cheese sauce had no flavor either. My biggest complaint was the red velvet cake. It looked delicious, but it wasn't. I asked the cashier if it had cream cheese frosting and i was told yes, but it was far from it. The cake tasted stale and the frosting was not good. But maybe the other cakes taste better. My sister did enjoy her sandwich. It had a good amount of meat but it wasn't as much as i seen on previous pictures. Her cheesecake was ok. But it wasn't what we thought it would be. I would like to try other menu items to see if I'd enjoy something else. They had a lot of people there so others seem to enjoy the food. 3 stars!!
Review of my visit on March 26, 2022. Finally got around to trying this deli out! Very interesting and the staff was polite. I arrived as they opened for business, so not much of a wait. There are soups, and a decent amount of cakes to buy. A slice or an entire cake. Speaking of these cakes, their cheesecakes are large and I'll try one of them soon. A great menu. Wasn't too hungry, so I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and it was superb; the best I've had in quite some time. Highly recommended and I will be back to try something else!
Dude... this place! So let me tell y'all. Anytime my kids or myself are sick I get (or have someone get) the matzoh ball soup. It really does help! I haven't had a bad thing here. The portions are big just fyi. I normally share something unless I'm trying to have leftovers. Foods amazing
