What Carolina Baeza doesn't like about Le Potager de la Tour:
I was with a group of 19 walkers and we had spent the morning in Avignon, thereafter crossing to Villeneuve for lunch - this was a walk across the Eduard Duladier bridge and then 15/20 minutes to the restaurant. I had booked in advance. We sat on the outside terrace and there was a good welcome. We had a variety of main courses including salmon and brochettes of lamb and the cost was reasonable. It was a pleasant meal... View all feedback.
The best pizza dishes in the best years have not changed anything at the restaurant I recommend team and service at the top
We go there every year during our May vacation. christian, a fantastic cuisine with Julian. we return on 20/05, terrace table if possible and, we will have a good Belgian beer with us for the chef.
Beautiful ambiance and pleasant service and above all really good food and wine. We went twice and both meals were top class. Menus was extensive enough to give choice but not so big that you would suspect freezer bags in use! Salad starters are delicious...and enormous and there is no problem if you wish to share. Expect to pay about 80 Euros for two including a bottle of wine.
We had eaten a huge and wonderful lunch (at Les Forets in Gigondas), and were looking for a local spot where we could get a small bite for supper. Our hosts (the Grassiots, owners of the fabulous Chateau de la Vernede) recommended Le Potager as...the spot for us, warning us to share one salad between us. Great advice. As its name suggests, Le Potager de la Tour is located across the main road from the tower that once marked the Villeneuve end of the Pont D'Avignon. A sign (picture attached) faces the main road, with the entrance on the side street. There is a dining room, although on a warm October evening we took a table on the large deck. We were not the only English speakers, but it was clear from the children playing in the corners and all of the hugged greetings that most diners were local regulars. The menu consists mainly of (i) large and interesting salads, and (ii) grilled meats, cooked by the owner over a wood-burning grill, with simple potato and vegetable accompaniments. We shared an outstanding salad of excellent greens tossed with crispy liver, onions and lots of other goodies and a fine vinaigrette. It was so large, rich and delicious that we would have stopped there, except that we had already ordered a duck kabob plate. So we tucked into that as well. It was an un-embellished grilled meat platter, but the duck was tasty and fresh off the grill, and the potatoes were winners for my Irish-born wife. Service throughout was with a smile. This is certainly not fine dining or haute cuisine. But I would recommend Le Potager to anyone who wants a break from all of that, and wants to eats simply and well, where local families go.
