Another good restaurant on the village square at Villecroze although their main restaurant is on the main street. A village where every restaurant is good! We had the 19 euro set menu which offered a good choice. Reasonably good wine list with good value wine. Good service by helpful staff. The setting on the square is vey good and relaxing. What Stokerow doesn't like about Sous le Platanes:
This restaurant is nice but nothing special. Cheap and cheerful I think one review mentioned which I agree with. We booked a table on the terrace but this was right on rhe road and was very wobbly. We waited rather a long time for drink and food orders to be taken and starters to come but mains came quicker. Chicken nuggets for one child were not very good and the mushroom ravioli could have been shop bought and had... View all feedback.
Carefully chosen ingredients by the chef-owner means this and its companion restaurant “Sous Les Platains” are excellent places to enjoy the French experience.
First, I made the mistake of stopping at one of the other restaurants in the square (which shall remain nameless). After waiting for what felt like an eternity to have a glance at the menu in fact, long enough for me to fear that they wouldn't be able to serve me lunch before the 14:00 deadline I up and left. I then wandered into La Cascade and was immediately greeted and treated with great hospitality. And the meal was even better or at least just as good as the service!
Martine is one of the most friendly restaurant owners in the village and local area. Her food is always good and even though not terribly adventerous you rarely get a bad meal. I think in the winter time this restaurant is always cosy and enjoyed by lots of local people which is always a good sign.Set menu is very good value and the fish and chips is excellent for 12 euros !
We live in the village and used to go to La Cascade regularly. The food is good if unimaginative. I liked the lamb which was tender. My husband had a bad steak tartare. The restaurant is central, busy and has a roadside outside terrace. Not the best view in Villecroze but lovely on a hot day. The reason we stopped going however was the feeling that Martine was unfriendly. Despite seeing us and recognizing us as regulars, she never once spoke to us or acknowledged us so we've taken our custom elsewhere. She has her favorites but not us unfortunately.
As always, "under the platanes" remains a good address to Villecroze. Once again we have enjoyed it, I with my homemade cut beef tartare, my wife with a squid carapccio (although the ration was very small, and curiously served with fries?)!. with our cabbages entered (for me a good gizzard) and our dessert (burned cream and tiramisu, succulents), this makes 21 more Especially since here everything is done home (sf les frites) !vin from the moment to 14,50 les 75cl.Patronne always nice that passes between the tables make sure that everything goes well.Service of smiling students but (well) more amateur, but well, let's not be too hard. So the address is always quite worth the detour!
