Pretty much what you expect and does what it says on the tin. Food was ok. Service was ok. Guys had a cheese and ham toasty which they said was ok. I had the port sandwich which came with crisps and a little salad on the place would have been nice. Ok but just ok. Would not rush back but then again would not walk past if I was hungry. Ate here last year, best tuna toastie, ever! Came back 2019, called back again for toastie, chips SuperBock. Nice, but service was not great. The particular waiter was not great. Attitude... 2nd visit on Sun 1st Sept, fancied a decent lunch. Averagely busy. Sat waited whilst a family of 4 beside us returned dirty water glasses twice. The waiter was really pissed off! Same waiter came to take our order....i have never... View all feedback.
We were a family of 14(! . The service was excellent and the food was relly good value. Cannot recomend highly enough. We'll be back!
This so called restaurant serves world class frozen food with some fresh ingredients in the mix! I would not recommend this place.
First night in Monte Gordo and we arrived late after driving down from Porto. Looking for food, we found Retiro da praia still open and were welcomed by Joao to take a seat. The food was wonderful and just what we needed after a six hundred kilometer drive, if anything there was too much on our plates. We immediately gave them 'the contract ' and ate there for the rest of the seven days whenever we could. Service was excellent and polite, the food always wonderful, and believe me, the chef who prepares the desserts has the soul of an angel and all the skills of the devil absolutely fabulous. I did ask if they could open a branch in our village back home, what a change that would make from soggy cream teas! A splendid place, so wishes to all from Ken Xinha.

Same waiter came to take our order....i have never been met with such rudeness in my life...He shouted at us both. It was so ridiculous that it was funny!! We gave him our order in a normal way. Then received an aggressive speech about how he was 'on his own ' and 'couldn 't wait for us to order '... We both closed our menus and left... Our 4th year in Monte Gordo...we will never be back!!
Went with my wife on our honeymoon, and found myself in the mood for a burger. Asked for the house burger as it was the only one on the menu that seemed to be without mushrooms or bacon (my diet excludes both of these things). Burger arrived absolutely drenched in a mushroom filled pasta sauce. The bread was absolutely sodden and made the thing near impossible to pick up. Once I had scraped off the mushrooms to try and eat what remained, it tasted of a burger marinaded in pasta sauce. Had 1/4 left the rest. The only reason this is not a one star review is because the waiter showed concern at my lack of enthusiasm and seemed like a nice guy. Also my wife didn't mind her lasagna and the beer wasn't too expensive. Otherwise, nah. Try somewhere else.
