The barrage was built to irrigate an ayacut of 5.8 lakh acres. Due to development of ayacut in Krishna delta, the anicut was incapable of providing water for irrigation. In vijaywada the famous place is prakasam barrage where any body can visit and near to temple and the bridge is cool and in that water we can swim and having bath also and like this place and so many time I went here to visit it....

Peaceful peace and steps are provided to sit.Those who are going to the Kanaka Durga Temple can take a bath here. About prakasam bridge: Prakasam Barrage is existing on the Krishna River whose construction was completed in the year 1852-1855. The barrage was constructed to facilitate irrigation of large tracts of agricultural land and is one of the first major irrigation projects undertaken in South India.
Good place to visit, you will get a vast view of the river. Would like to visit one more time.
