Wanted to eat here last time we were in Vigo. There are other restaurants of higher rating or quality as this one is a little grubby by comparison to many of these but I would not have missed eating here. Helpful and positive waiter. Huge wine selection. We experienced their broth (soup). Simple and delicious. We were recommended a mixed meat dish in addition to our seafood dish and all were very good. A choice of two types of beef or Ox with pork and a burner to heat up or cook further while one wades through so much. Excellent breads and wines served at the right temperature. Yep, as we saw in summer this is vibrant, very busy place and in November the fare and service was good.

If you want to eat small portions of unimpressive food very quickly in very nice surroundings and pay an amount disproportionate to the quality and quantity and wash it down with overpriced wine then this place is perfect. Small entrance on the main square belies the size of the place once you are inside. Large and roomy with a very nice decor, stone walls and lots of plants makes you feel as though you are on a terrace, very good indeed; unfortunately that is where the plaudits end. Menu is normal for this region providing the usual range of dishes but nothing special and obviously targetted at the tourist trade rather than local diners. The choice of fish on the menu was underwhelming especially bearing in mind that Vigo is reputed to be the largest commercial fishing port in the world. The portions were all tapas sized while the prices were for full plates. For the two who ordered soup the server brought a tureen to the table from which he provided two ladlefuls to each bowl, very smart indeed and to be fair when that meagre ration had been consumed he turned up again with the tureen and administered two more ladlefuls per bowl. What was not fair was being charged for two more portions, which after some discussion with the owner later was, not unreasonably, removed from the bill. The food was edible though not particularly good, with the Zamburiñas a la plancha I had being overcooked and drowned in a particularly unimpressive sauce. The waiting staff were all pleasant and the service was overly efficient, to the point where we wondered whether they were on a bonus for the speed at which they turned the tables . Unfortunately that was the impression we had of a place which seemed more intent on quantity of meals sold rather than the quality of the product. Even when I had the discussion about the cost of the soup I felt that the argument was won more because the owner did not want to spare time for a cordial discussion rather than because what had happened was unreasonable. Whilst the selection of wines was commendable the prices were not. Overall not a good experience at all. Pretty though.
