The food was delicious, the type that served us was attentive (and patient, while we practiced our German on it haha) and the atmosphere was quite cool and relaxing. I would return to Vienna.
The Kantine is like a living room in the Porzellangasse-area. Located next to Schauspielhaus, its full of interesting people - and has a surprising surplus! Authentic thai food of best quality! An asian place in a laid back Viennese bar.
Food was good, service was nice and fast and the prices were also accessible. I would recommend if you are ready to eat good Asian cuisine.
Being Thai myself, I’ll admit I had my doubts walking in. The place feels a bit tired, and the smell outside isn’t exactly welcoming.. but we were hungry and curious whether the reviews held up. We were greeted by a non-Thai local guide, which made us a little hesitant since we were after authentic Thai food. We asked outright whether the cook was Thai, and he assured us they were. He was pretty nice and helpful, which we appreciated. Then the food arrived and put our minds at ease. It was quite good. My red curry in particular stood out. Portions were generous too. The rice was a touch cold and a few grains were hard, and the egg felt like it had been sitting for a while rather than made fresh to order, which was a small letdown. But on the whole, a solid meal and the reviews are worth trusting.
