Since my last review in 2015, I have been to this restaurant and few times. The standard is always good, nice friendly ambience and a good choice of tasty food with lot of choice. Portions good, price reasonable for food and service.Love it, the gardens the restaurant and the location. Also a swimming pool in summer and accommodation.
Velez Blanco seemed like a ghost town at the beginning of September and we were the only guests staying at the hotel (tho 3 girls checked in mid evening), Even so we were put in probably the worst room near the kitchen outlet pipes . We couldn't open the bedroom window because of noise and greasy fumes. Thankfully there was a breeze from the small balcony and french doors(the best part) in the main room The so called aircon was ancient and useless. The shower was over a small bath with steep sides ,but there were no grab rails or non slip mat in the bath so an accident waiting to happen. The hotel is located at the bottom of a v steep hill ,so you need to be fit to explore., The family were friendly , but drifting around . The only efficient person was our waitress at the evening meal. The food was ok huge goat cheese salad and garlic prawns then we shared a skinny ,roast leg of lamb, which was tender and tasty, but let down by chips and honey coated aubergine. We vowed to go to modern hotels after this ....
Since we moved here 6 months ago, I am working my way through all the restaurants, bars and eateries in Velez Rubio as well as Velez Blanco and so far this is my favourite. The staff are attentive, personable and quite cheerful and chatty, but not in your face. The menu itself has a good variety and there’s certainly something for everyone. I am a diabetic and am at the moment quite restricted in what I can eat, but they gave a lot of attention to my needs and I am very grateful for their kind flexibility in preparing something different for me. We ate outside and looking up you can see the castle above us, lit up, and it was both pretty and atmospheric with more lights in the trees accenting the leaves and paths, and as it is close to the water that flows down from the mountain, being lower down and right beside the fast flowing water means that the air is cooled. It is a lovely comfortable place after a hot August day to eat and catch up with both friends and family. Love this place and will continue to eat here.
Lovely late lunch on the day we won the Ryder Cup. Great Spanish atmosphere, pretty setting, lovely food.
