An awesome place to have authentic food from the states of the East, the place was packed with folks from Assam and neighbouring Meghalaya Bhavan who find this place equally great and cost effective. The service is good and the items on offer are delicious. All in all a great experience View all feedback.
I was badly missing Bengali home-food, and Assamese cuisine is as close as it gets; so I tried Assam Bhavan for some Bong food equivalent. Their canteen, Bhogdoi is on the first floor; neatly decorated, with specials mentioned in the board. The names that got stuck in my head, were ' 'Fish Tenga ' ', Chicken Zeera Zaluk Kannir Dum (Assamese Egg Curry). Eventually I ordered them all even though the last two preparations are really good; the fish-tenga scores over the rest, simply because of it 's simplicity. For the uninitiated, Fish-tenga is a simple Tomato based soupy curry (jhol); and you can eat it whenever, in sickness or in health. Therefore, Fish Tenga Thali is what I order when I go to Bhogdoi, almost every time. It comes with Dal-Rice-Veggies-Fish Tenga ' 'Lonka Kasundi ' ' (A mustard preparation made with Chillies). They have the 'Fish Tenga ' in Rui (Rohu) and Katla variations. Over time, I 've learnt, not to order the Katla; because their Rui is usually fresher. I have also ordered Veg Thali at times, which comes with Curd Sweet (Payesh). However, Fish Tenga thali is the closest I could find to the simple mom-made ' 'Machher jhol Bhaat ' '. And at times when I rue the complete absence of a ' 'Bongo Bhaban ' ' in Mumbai; the taste of Fish-tenga takes me home, or at least close-by. So, thanks to Assam Bhaban for Bhogdoi; you cure my homesickness.
Had gone for Sunday lunch. Service was OK. Had ordered veg thaali, rohu sarson, bombil fry and Assamese Chicken zeera zaluk. Chicken was tasty.Fish missed the Bengali flavour.Overall safe on pocket. Can try once in awhile...
This is located at Assam bhavan, Vashi...it serves Bengali and Assamese dishes apart from some Chinese preparations...went there to have lunch and opted for a veg Assamese thali and an Assamese fish thali in which you get unlimited servings of the dishes u like...I liked the preparations since they were something new to try...Plus the place is neat, well ventilated and gives you a hint of Assam...not a very fancy place but a homely one...may be that's why I enjoyed my meal more...
Assam bhawan is located just at the cross roads of the Inorbit mall <br/ The Restuarant is on the first floor of the Assam bhawan this Restuarant Bhogdoi caters normal Assamese food. The ambience is perfect the staffs are good<br/ I did visit this place during Durga Puja at the Assam Bhawan and therefore I had tried there version of chicken Thali<br/ Now about Assamese food it is not a category of Bengali cuisine , Assam food and Bengali food are different the way of cooking the way to present the spices which are a bit different but in this restaurant the service catered are almost the same . Most of the thalis have a Bengali taste to your pallet , yes two sides that were provided in the thali were bit of Assamese. <br/ The fish thali was good as well as the chicken thali now bot the fish thali and the chicken thali have the same sides except the fish curry which was thick mustard sauce mixed with certain blends of spices I cannot explain you the taste <br/ But about the chicken curry it was so so now I don’t know how Assamese like their food but it was light on taste<br/ You can try it <br/ Ambience-good <br/ Taste- Average<br/ Location- perfect<br/ Price- perfect<br/ You can try out the different thalis and there type of payasum is not so good <br/ I mean it had just blowed off my mind of what is actually is payasum <br/ My friends had opted for fish thali but the satisfaction level in their faces was not something to encourage those are not the fresh catch daily fish) so better opt for something else <br/ Any way it’s a good casual dining if you are in Vashi and you are craving to have Assamese or Bengali or a blend of both the culture in your thali to satisfy your hungry pallet.<br/ #SB
Simple decent ambience of old fashioned canteen where 90's bollywood music playing in background. Completely Assam Govt owned Building n premises.<br/ <br/ I ordered Mutton Jeera Zaluk Thali n it was fabulous. Spicy curry n so does Red Chilli Thecha. Good portion of mutton curry n rice which is actual main course. <br/ <br/ Other items in thali were in small quantity n I appreciate that concern. So you can really enjoy your Mutton very well. <br/ <br/ Kheer was nicely prepared n kitchen looks clean n tidy.<br/ <br/ Ayurvedic medicines shop is also inside Restaurant with a cupboard showcasing their products.
