Was Sarah Frauchiger at Bao Bakery a mag?
Bao goodness. br/ br/ The baos here are packed full of flavour meaty goodness. The classic BBQ pork bao had a sweet juicy filling. The bola bola is a meaty with pork chicken plus the saltiness of the egg yolk. br/ Other menu options like the crispy fried shrimp dumpling that looks like a curry puff is crispy filled full with well cooked shrimp. The siu mai lacks flavour needs some sesame oil otherwise cooked well.... View all feedback.
What Japchae dislikes about Bao Bakery:
Love the steamed BBQ pork buns….they have gotten smaller with less filling though. What needs improving is the look of the bun…..not very sealed. Use to have a rounded top. Now they’re flat, with a hole at the top. There’s one in my pic that looks like it was patched up! View all feedback.
This place serves the normal Chinese bakery buns but also steamed buns too, which on a cold day, tastes really good.
This trendy bakery sells traditional baked goods and steam buns.
This is a Chinese/Asian-style bakery located on 41st, right by the Joyce Skytrain Station. They have a large selection of steamed baos, buns, and various other baked goods. I had their BBQ Pork, Ube Bean, Chicken Deluxe, and Racy Yolky Bao. The baos were all fantastic: soft and fluffy, and stuffed with a generous amount of tasty filling. The prices are very fair. All in all, I highly recommend checking this place out. <br/ <br/ BBQ Pork Bao $2.75):<br/ 4/5<br/ The bun was very fluffy and soft, with a great chewy texture. It was filled with a great amount of pork. The pork was tender and had a great bit of sweetness to it.<br/ <br/ Ube Bean Bao $2.05):<br/ 4/5<br/ Again, there was a good amount of filling inside. The ube was creamy and sweet. It might be a bit on the sweeter side for some people, but I quite enjoyed it.<br/ <br/ Chicken Deluxe Bao $3.60):<br/ 4/5<br/ This contained BBQ pork, salted egg yolk, and ham. Again, the bun was filled with a good amount of meat. The meat was flavourful, tender and juicy; there also seemed to be some water chestnuts inside that provided a bit of crunch.<br/ <br/ Racy Yolky Bao $2.90):<br/ 4.5/5<br/ This was filled with custard and salted egg yolk. The custard was sweet and creamy, while the egg yolk was oily and provided a great saltiness to balance the sweetness. This is definitely a great twist on the regular custard version.<br/ <br/ Summary:<br/ Food: 4/5<br/ Price: 4/5<br/ Service: N/A<br/ Overall: 4/5<br/ Recommendations: Baos favourite was racy yolky)

Both gorgeously baked presented.<br/ <br/ My recommendation- the BBQ pork bao fried shrimp dumpling.
• located near Joyce skytrain station just before the Filipino restaurants, next to the corner resto<br/ their sign is way up and you won’t be able to see it right away unless you are standing across the place<br/ free parking along the streets side streets, read the sign so you won’t get towed away as I’ve seen this quite a bit<br/ • first impression: unwelcoming, unfriendly service, not even a hi or hello from the staff. Most of them are impolite really and did not even thank me for my purchase. Service 1/5<br/ • Asado siopao 2.25: pork with soy sauce, brown sugar spices in a steam bun. The flavours are good, the amount of filling to the bun have good proportions. The bun itself is soft got a perfect texture<br/ • Lumpia shanghai (Pork spring rolls 9pcs for 4.95: was not too bad, it just have this distinct Chinese spice flavour I can detect. I wished they made it 10/ 4.95 : <br/ • Deep fried shrimp dumpling 1.95: a bit pricey for one piece, yet it was grounded shrimp inside the dumpling. Of course it was a bit oily, but was ok<br/ • overall their siopaos (steamed buns were good almost comparable to the one of the best in town (Newtown bakery , just don’t mind the attitude there
