So very sad to lose Trafalgars. A moment of silence please. Wonderful last dinner even though neither of us are fathers.
Father’s Day 2017 was the last day Trafalgars Bistro will be serving food to its customers. The restaurant at 2603 West 16th Avenue has closed its doors forever. I was there on its second land day and we asked our server about the restaurant shutting its doors. He shared with us that as the restaurant’s 20th anniversary approached they realized it was time their foodie story to come to an end.I ordered a gluten-free version of Egg Benedict—my eggs and ham were served over potato pancakes. I ordered medium eggs and they got them bang on perfect! My friend and I both ordered the caramel tart with ganache and fleur de sel served with a raspberry on top for dessert. It was absolutely divine! I love how that salt cuts through the sweetness of both the ganache and the caramel. The tart shell was perfectly crisp. As sad as it was to leave, there is good news for those who are huge fans of those outstanding desserts.Their bakery Sweet Obsession will remain open! I just love the funky retro orange chairs and FYI, be prepared to wait in line for your sweet treat. It is always a sad story when a beautiful foodie haven like Trafalgars Bistro disappears. I am grateful I got the chance to visit their space, people and food before they closed their doors. I am so grateful for this foodie opportunity and will remember the stunning meal I had there, always.
I went for brunch today. Perfectly poached eggs on thick potato pancakes with good home cured ham and an impeccable hollandaise. What has always made this restaurant wonderful is the combination of excellent food (as good or better than many very expensive restaurants) combined with an unpretentious and comfortable space and consistently excellent service. If there are ever any problems with food or service they address them immediately. Sadly they are closing on June 18 2017, so go while you can.
We miss you already! thanks for everything. I'll see you at sweet obsessions. ==========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
