As someone who had attended UBC over 30 years ago, I found this coffee house by my old department (Physics) a wonderful place to reminesce the old days on campu... read more As someone who had attended UBC over 30 years ago, I found this coffee house by my old department (Physics) a wonderful place to reminesce the old days on campus. The big window frames the comings and going of the students; and the coffee, freshly ground and hot and strong, makes you wonder if all the food offerings on campus are of much higher standard than years past. Now, there is no better sticky bun or BLT (grilled in beacon fat) made ANYWAY as they used to make it at the Student Union Building (SUB), but those days of high-cal foods are gone. Luckily, the scones at Loafe make a good impression. Do ask for it to be warmed up - and they did a good job at it (if I am not being too precise) - so it would be flaky and soft. I wish they had Devonshire cream (or just high quality butter), but that would be asking too much, wouldn't it? Still, the place is calm and relaxing (maybe because it is summer), and a great place to stop for a break during a tour of the ever expanding campus. As someone else pointed out, beer and wine are also served. You can even order a Campari. Alas, what next, antipasti and tapas at 6pm? Campus life has changed! Lucky kids these days!
