Description

Chang'an Vancouver offers an upscale Chinese dining experience with authentic dishes like Peking Duck and Shaanxi cuisine. While the decor is elegant, the service can be slow and the menu may be confusing for some. The food is a hit or miss with some guests loving the duck and soup, but others finding dishes to be average. Overall, Chang'an provides a unique dining experience with fair portion sizes for the price. For those looking for a high-end Chinese restaurant in Vancouver, Chang'an is worth a visit, especially for special occasions.

(Long post I have been to Chang 'An twice and i have no complaints about the food itself, the problematic experience i had was with the manager. We were a company of twelve resulting in a 1600 CAD bill and i was about to pay when the manager pointed to their recommended tip amount which is either 15, 18 or 20% (15% of 1600 is 240 CAD . It seemed a ridiculous amount to pay an extra of 240 CAD (minimum when i was already paying 1600 so i said i did not want to pay that much for two reasons:1. The service was not that good (long waits, little attention from the staff etc. .2. Its just ridiculously much for a tip.Now the manager would absolutely not accept me paying less than 15% tip and she made a scene thretening to go talk to the other people at my table about this, saying that i should follow the Canadian way of paying tips , saying that every guest should follow their rules etc. She would not listen at all to what i said and we argued for over 15 minutes until my guests started to leave the table. She was absolutely terrible and i do not feel like coming back. Also: they charged 30 CAD just for OPENING a bottle of wine...

This place was phenomenal! I was so impressed by the execution of flavours, techniques, and elevation of ingredients. Service was excellent and staff was attentive and superior. Can tell they pay close attention to customer experience! I would say the chef is definitely Michelin grade. Much better than many of the Western Michelin restaurants in my opinion. Highly recommend this place!

Overall is good especially atmosphere and view for a Chinese restaurant. Service and food are good, but the quantity of the dishes are small besides the duck we had ordered. And will recommend to others and will go again.
