Pleasantly Surprised. We decided to give this restaurant a try one evening because I was in the mood for fish. Typically, I'm not a huge fan of fish since I often find it either too strong in flavor or bland. However, I ordered the grilled fish filet and was very pleasantly surprised. It was expertly prepared, flavorful, and had a nice texture. The food arrived quickly, and the staff were friendly and attentive. My o... View all feedback.
What Melanie G doesn't like about Mariacos Las Islitas:
The food wasn't up to par, and they don’t serve ceviche marinated in lemon juice, which is disappointing. They have a live band, but the waitstaff couldn’t hear my order, which was quite frustrating. Additionally, some of the waitresses were rude, and it took a long time to place an order. View all feedback.
The waitress are rude. The food is below average, rich and the prices. Everything's over price for the quality.
Well, let's start with this. You HAVE TO valet your car, even if the the lot is empty. Oh, I parked, they just charged. Ok well moving on.Inside is great. Lots of space and even though the music can be drowning. The hostess was awesome and allowed to sit away from the loud music. The food was good and the service was good as well. They made sure we were taken care of. Now the food was good but man was it pricey. Given, I go to eat, so I order like I've never eaten. None the less it came out to 160$ for two of us. The molcajete was 36$ and the oysters were up there in price as well. We had a total of 4 plates so if you do the math, average that out. After all that I still give it 4 stars because it was good food and the service, always big in that.
I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant recently, and overall, I found the ambiance to be quite pleasant. The decor was tastefully chosen and aligned well with the atmosphere they were aiming to create. We actually made a special trip from Valencia just to give it a try, as my father had expressed curiosity about it. Admittedly, it being Father's Day, the restaurant was quite busy. However, we arrived before the main dinner rush, hoping for a smoother experience.Unfortunately, there were some delays in our dining experience. It took nearly an hour for our food to arrive after we had placed our order, which was a bit unexpected. Throughout the evening, the waitress paid infrequent attention to our table, seldom checking if we desired additional drinks or anything else. Given the premium prices at this establishment, one would naturally expect a higher level of service. I can speak on this matter from a place of experience, having grown up in the restaurant industry and with my family collectively owning six different locations. Consequently, the explanations provided by the staff for such lapses in service do not appear justified, particularly when considering the multitude of negative reviews this restaurant has received. To provide a fair assessment, I must mention that the food itself was decent. However, the enchiladas seemed to have a canned taste, which was somewhat disappointing. The white rice accompanying the dish was satisfactory, but didn't particularly stand out. In conclusion, while the overall experience at the restaurant was okay, there were certainly areas for improvement, especially in terms of service. Despite my background in the industry and the unflattering reviews I've encountered, I maintain an open mind and appreciate the effort put into crafting the establishment's ambiance and decent-tasting food. Also is there valet even legal?
I was looking for a really good seafood place and I thought if in Van Nuys the only place that I would not recommend it to was on Vanowen and Kester the food was so cold it was overly spice with salt and lemon we waited for an hour for them to serve our food cold. I do not recommend this place bad taste bad music bad ambience and bad service.
This place used to be a spot that my coworkers and me loved prior to the pandemic but that's in the past. This place charges for every little thing and it starts with their forced valet in the parking lot. Then, once you're inside they charge extra for every little thing like extra salsa. The service is also super slow and the waitresses rarely check in with you. It also takes a long time to even get your bill...assuming that it's correct. They don't seem to know how to split a check. The food was still decent but today's trip is enough for me to write this restaurant off once and for all.
