As mentioned above, the octopus I had in the restaurant was the best I had in portugal! eating is traditional and the guide of a classic Portuguese style. my pa... read more As mentioned above, the octopus I had in the restaurant was the best I had in portugal! eating is traditional and the guide of a classic Portuguese style. my partner had the cablejaufisch with traditional vegetables. we loved that, although it was in a tourist area, there was no salesman at the entrance who tried to lure them, a good sign for honest and qualitatiw high quality location. the personal is warm and welcome. I can't say anymore, please give it to me!

Anyhow, no matter what they call themselves thi... read more This restaurant seems to have changed it's name. When we visited last week it was called Restaurante Bar Nelson. Anyhow, no matter what they call themselves this is one awful place. We studied the menu and thought it looked ok but my partner wanted salad...with her pork steak instead of the chips. The waiter eventually agreed and off he went. Beer was served and that was good, but when food arrived my partner had chips and no salad, pork steak tough, my veal was poor and the chips were of the frozen type with no taste. Not wanting to make a fuss and as it was cheap we decided to eat up and pay and take it as a lesson learnt. That's when another problem arose, this place does not accept cards and it was lucky I had enough Euros on me to pay!! Do yourself a favour and give this place a wide berth.

At... read more I had the fortunate experience to stop by and have my dinner at this lovely, casual restaurant in one of the several narrow streets of Bairro Alto in Lisbon. At only a few steps away from my apt, I stepped by as my fave restaurant prato...do dia' was not of my apetite that day. Nelson Bar is a cosy outdoor-indoor restaurant under recent new ownership. The owner himself (or so he seemed), served all tables. He was quiet overwhelmed by the many customers at dinner time, but he paid a lot of attention to each of them to ensure all was good. During the wait (which was short), I received some olives as an aperitif. I ordered bacchalau assado (baked cod) and a small vase of house wine. I received: lt of wine and a perfectly balanced and tasy meal with generous portions. Cod was perfectly cooked and not too salty. It came on a bed of novel potatoes in their skin, surrpunded by broccoli, cabbage and carrots. Both presentation, taste and the perfect balance of nutrients was delightful Red house wine was very good too...it was a shame to leave half a caraff of more behind..but I went solo Nelson has a good choice menu and very reasonable price. Atm is familiar and cosy. I would go several times if I lived in Lisbon.
