Pujol 8 - Valencia

Es la segunda vez que como allí y la verdad que muy bien, calidad muy buen precio, menu 12'50€ nos han reservado mesa a pesar de tener mascletà. Está en el medio. el personal super amable.

Pujol 8 is a nice place to have lunch. It is patronized almost exclusively by locals, mostly businessmen and women. The attraction is the owner cook. She is a professional and produces small quantities of basically homed cook food. We had the green beans with ham and the braised veal cheeks with fried potatoes. Both were excellent. The liquid in which these very tender morsels of flavorful veal contained carrots and made for a lovely sauce. The fixed price menu includes beer, wine or bottled water, bread, a first course, an entree and desert. The price is a bargain considering the quality and home cooked flavors. Service too was exceptional.

We visited this fine dining restaurant having eaten at Quintonil the night before. We had high hopes as it’s one of the World’s 50 best restaurants and we thought it could only get better. Our table was great, in the middle of the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and explained how the set menu worked. I have to say the food was amazing, every course was tasty and challenged our taste buds. So why only 2 stars? Having eaten at some of the best restaurants all over the world, the food is not everything. The ambience, the atmosphere, the staff all contribute. They have no official wine pairing so we asked a member of the sommelier team to assist. He kindly did. However we were never presented with the prices and he made no effort to ask what kind of wines we liked or disliked. At Quintonil we knew what we were paying for as the price was set. Here at Pujol, he paired without asking any questions and was quite surly and very assumptive. At one course, my husband asked about the price of the sweet wine he was pouring. It was £23 for a small glass. He then responded asking if we would prefer something cheaper. I also explained to the waitress how the restaurant was very cold. She explained they have no AC or heating and that the air just circulated. I didn’t quite understand her response. Everyone around us had pashminas or coats over their shoulders. Their very own bar lady had a scarf wrapped around her neck like a snood. By the end of the meal, my husband and I were both freezing. This is unacceptable for a restaurant of such a high standard. And then it got worse when the 6.30 clientele left and the 9pm clientele arrived (they only do 2 sittings). The door was being opened and shut continuously. By now, I couldn’t wait to leave too. It was the same temperature outside as it was inside. So all in all, the food didn’t disappoint; everything else did.

The food was marvelous, the service wonderful, the hosts charming. They have a lovely, well-priced lunch menu. Don't miss it!

What a find! This little jewel seats about 25 people inside, with several outdoor tables as well. Right in the heart of the city center, on a cute side street filled with charming boutiques, Pujol 8 has a wonderful daily menu for the unbelievable price of 10.9 euros. The day I visited the menu included a choice of house salad or Fideuá (one of the national dishes of Valencia), roasted pork loin or tuna tortilla, bread, one drink and dessert. The sister/owners, Paula and Isabel are charmers--they will make you feel very welcome, and the walls are decorated with the works of another sister, Luisa, a talented painter. If you have a chance to visit this sweet little corner of Valencia you'll be delighted. Enjoy!
