Reviews - Mitchem's Kitchen
Reviews summary
Mitchem’s offers a nostalgic, down-home dining experience with a wide-ranging menu from BBQ to seafood and classic sides. Patrons praise the friendly, attentive staff and generous portions, alongside standout items like sweet tea and hand pies. However, inconsistency in food quality and preparation poses challenges, with reports of dry BBQ, undercooked fish, and overly tough pork chops. Service speed varies, notably with long wait times for to-go orders. Despite some decline from its former standards, the welcoming atmosphere and hearty meals keep many returning, though others suggest caution and possible menu avoidance. Parking can be tight, but the restaurant remains family- and wheelchair-friendly.

I really want to give this restaurant a five star review. We ordered a TOGO order of perch and it was some of the best perch I have ordered in NC. BUUUUUT, it literally took about an hour for them to cook my order. One order of perch! This is unacceptable. The girls at the front were very friendly and nice and we're checking on my order but it still took 50 minutes! People inside the restaurant came to eat and left b... View all feedback.
What Mom of Four dislikes about Mitchem's Kitchen:
The owners have changed and so has the business. This was our go to for Breakfast on Saturday mornings but we will never be back. We waited 20 minutes for a table and we sat down and never got any service. They stayed in the kitchen and once they came out they started cleaning the tables instead of taking our order. The girls at the front were very friendly and nice and we're checking on my order but it still took 50 minutes! People inside the restaurant came to eat and left before I got my Togo! I will be back because the food was that good but maybe to sit down in the restaurant and eat. Don't think I will ever order a Togo and wait. ??? oh and the homemade hand pies are soo good too!

Have been going to Mitchem's quite a bit on Wednesdays to get a quick bite before church. However we will not be dining at Mitchem's again. With the addition of beer we will not be back. However, I would like to say I hate to do this to Melinda the waitress as she is the best. But I will be going somewhere else from now on.
I like going to this restaurant I like to go when all you can eat barbecue is on the menu the barbecue at mitchems has a great flavor all notes of flavor hits you smokey, spicy, and sweet
If I could give this place a negative score, I would! It was the worst experience I've had in a long time. I ordered two family meals that cost roughly $65.00 and a gallon of tea. I didn't receive the tea because they claimed they didn't charge me for it, but I ended up paying an extra $5.00 for it anyway. The food was terrible - the hush puppies were as hard as rocks, the fish was undercooked, and the shrimp sauce tasted like warm, sour red water. The person at the window was rude, egotistical, hateful, and disrespectful. I will never eat at this restaurant again. It used to be my go-to spot, but the poor service and bad food were enough to turn me away.
