What Jeanne Blin doesn't like about Auberge la Bartavelle:
The pace of service is beyond deliberate but we can handle that if it is part of a great dining experience. This was not one of those times. We finally lost it when our main dishes came and they were barely lukewarm. There is a...crying lack of coordination between the kitchen and the front of the house. The food we had was actually good so the kitchen seems capable. The disorganization has to be addressed. View all feedback.
We visited for Sunday lunch. We have a house in the area so are very familiar with local restaurants. We have used this restaurant before, however the restaurant has recently expanded and friends gave as good reports and suggested we re-visit. We were very impressed...with the expanded facilities. It was a dull rainy day but we were provided with an excellent table inside but adjacent to the courtyard. A number of restaurant formulas were offered. We chose the maximum 39 euro option, which consisted of five courses: amuse bouche; an egg soufflé (somewhere between an amuse bouche and a starter); a starter; a main course and a desert. Other formulas allowed you to choose a lesser number of courses. The amuse bouche was a mixture of spelt grains, cold and ok but not great. The egg soufflé which incorporated truffle was excellent and very clever. For the starter we both chose a duo of fois gras consisting of fresh and pate fois gras, really excellent. For main my wife had fish and I had veal, you are allowed to choose this from the a la carte menu. A little disappointing especially the vegetables. For dessert we had different soufflés, my wife chocolate and myself raspberry. It was a big meal conducted at a fast pace all completed in 1:30 hours. Overall good, rustic bordering on fine but not quite making it. Total damage was 114 euros including wine. We’ll go again but have to make sure we’re really hungry.

We come here every time we visit our maison secondaire in Vaison as we believe this is always the best place to eat a wonderful meal for a very reasonable price! This season the restaurant has expanded into the buildings and courtyard next door and...whilst we worried that the tripling in size would affect the food and service, we needn’t have as the choice of fixed and individual menus has remained with as always a very high end standard of food with a huge variety of choice. All the dishes are exquisitely presented and the flavours and variety fantastic. This has to be my most favourite place to eat certainly in France to date!
This is a great place to eat in Vaison. Great service, great food, great wines. Highly recommended. Open even in middle of winter.
Booked here last minute and very pleased as they had a special truffle menu. We started with something similar to a loose scrambled egg with truffle. Followed by small ravioli with a cheese filling and truffle. Main course was veal, again with truffle. This wasn't...just shavings of truffle either...each course came a decent amount of sliced truffle. We each had a different final course of cheese and Grand Marnier creme brulee. The creme brulee having a seriously heavy dose of alcohol in it. A good value meal though at 42 euros per head. Service was fine, the only issue I had is that in the corner of the dining room they had a desk set up with a laptop where they were managing bookings incl the phone ringing on and off throughout the meal.
