Itsu
Description
Itsu at Stansted Airport presents a range of dining experiences, from delicious sushi and hearty vegan options to disappointing service and cleanliness issues. While many guests appreciate the quality and affordability of the food, such as the I'thai Udon and salmon sushi, they frequently encounter customer service shortcomings, including inattentive staff and long wait times. The restaurant's ambiance varies, with some expressing concern over hygiene and a lack of proper table management. I was served the tiniest bacon roll I have ever had at this restaurant. It also took 12 minutes to prepare. It was a disappointing choice considering the many other options on the menu.
I typically dine at Pret at Stansted, but this time I decided to give itsu a try. The service at itsu is similar to McDonald's, where the staff presents meal options to you. I ordered some sashimi and a miso soup, but unfortunately, neither dish was tasty or fresh. The miso soup had large, slimy tofu lumps that were not mentioned on the menu and which I did not request. It was disgusting! The overall cleanliness of the restaurant was lacking, and it did not seem to be properly disinfected. The most unpleasant part of my experience was when I cleared my table and disposed of the rubbish in the recycling area. To my surprise, there was a large open slop bucket containing the leftover, uneaten meals of previous patrons. The sight of festering food floating in a rotting sewage pool almost made me sick.
I visited this restaurant while traveling through Stansted. I tried the I'thai Udon dish, which consisted of noodles with vegetables such as peas, beans, peppers, and coriander, all in a rich, slightly spicy sauce with coconut milk. It was delicious and the service was quick and friendly. Overall, I would say it was the perfect airport lunch for me.
Itsu is probably one of the better choices for travellers who a) don't want to spent a million pounds for a subpar meal, and b) are trying to watch their calorie consumption. However: nearly everything contains the devil's lettuce (that is to say, corriander), and the seating is remarkably uncomfortable. But tgen, you win some and lose some.
