Lemak - Upper Mount Gravatt
Lemak
Description
8 Street at Garden City is home to Lemak, a Malaysian eatery serving traditional dishes like Laksa, Char Kway Teow, and Roti. While some reviewers found the laksa lacking in flavor and portion size a bit small initially, others praised the beef rendang and nasi lemak as delicious and authentically Malaysian. The fried chicken received positive feedback for its taste and crispiness, with some customers likening the experience to eating in Malaysia. Overall, Lemak seems to be making improvements, with better portion sizes and fried chicken quality noted over time. The cozy atmosphere and reasonable prices make it a good spot for those craving Malaysian flavors.

I had char kuey teow and nasi lemak when they were newly opened some months back. The portions were quite little for the price. The food then looks and smells good but the flavour was a bit lacking. Roti was good however. A few months later now, I see their portion size have improved which is great. Had nasi goreng with fried chicken this time. Unfortunately nasi goreng was lacking in flavour. The fried chicken was better. It's batter was like KFC's but not as tasty. It wasn't too bad though. My friend had nasi lemak with fried chicken and said that the sambal chilli was not quite up to scratch. Hopefully they will improve and get better.
Another day wandering around Garden City and I began to feel peckish. In need for a feed, I headed into 8 Street to see whats on offer. Compared to my previous visit, I realised a few new eateries opened, it was good to see more variety around (will try when I get the chance). I stopped by Lemak, a newly opened Malaysian store serving up traditional dishes including, Char Kway Teow, Laksa, Roti and more. The little blackboard positioned infront of their counter got my attention and after a quick glance, I knew what I wanted. I was soon greeted by a friendly staff and my order was placed. In return, they gave me a buzzer and informed me that my Chicken Laksa will take around 10-15mins. Served in a takeaway bowl, my laksa was presented hot. The meal consisted of egg noodles mixed with vermicelli, tender chicken, a few beans and some bean sprouts. I took a quick sip of the soup and was slightly disappointed as it wasn't very flavourful (there was barely any coconut taste as well). The beans were really crunchy as if they weren't cooked properly. Unfortunately, overall this dish wasn't very much to my liking. Perhaps next time I'll give their Roti a try as it is one of my favourite foods.
