Contribute FeedbackA recent visit to this new restaurant, courtesy of a Groupon, provided a mix of experiences. While the restaurant was empty upon arrival, the service was fast and the food, particularly the crispy crab rangoons, was delicious. However, there were issues with the management, reservations, and lighting in the restaurant. Despite these drawbacks, the Shrimp Pad Thai and overall service were highlights of the dining experience. Overall, the food quality and service outweighed the ambiance concerns, leading to a positive dining experience that left patrons looking forward to returning.
Were I rating this as a carry out, the food having been excellent, I’d be giving it a higher overall rating. BUT, the management of the front of the house will have to go a long way to become barely competent as purveyors of hospitality. We had made reservations thru Open Table, confirmed for On arrival, I told the server that we were the Davis Party, reserved thru Open Table. He said, “we have vacant tables, no reservation is needed.” I pointed out that we wanted to be recorded as having kept our reservation as we do save the award-points. Then he indicated, that, actually, Thai Basil (Upper Arlington) had not started up with OT (REALLY! how is it that they appeared on the OT App, with openings designated throughout the evening and that I had received confirmation from OT of my reservation We were struck by the...er...Spartan furnishings of the eatery. Alright for a pizza takeout, but not to the standards one has for a sit-down restaurant in Darkness outside, the dining area was grotesquely lit with available lighting short of lumens, at the blue end of the color range. The effect was, even for those of us having taken pains to appear human and healthy, everyone evoked a hue of the recently late; a little queasy-inducing. When the food had been served, the sweet potato pakora needed salt. Salt and pepper not being a feature at our table, I requested salt from the server. About ten minutes later, salt and pepper, in dipping dishes, was delivered with the comment, “We’ve been open for six weeks and no one ever needed salt and pepper before.” (For the second time, REALLY?
Food was very good. Priced reasonably. Staff not overly friendly, but service was good.
We got a Groupon to try the new spot and it was great. No one was there around PM so we had the entire place to ourselves. The service was quick and the food was very good, especially the crispy crab ragoons!
If I were to review this restaurant based solely on the quality of the food for takeout, I would give it a higher rating. However, the management of the front of the house has a long way to go in terms of providing hospitality. We had made a reservation through Open Table for 7:30PM, but upon arrival, the server claimed no reservation was necessary as there were vacant tables. I insisted on being recognized as the Davis Party to receive award points. It was surprising to learn that Thai Basil in Upper Arlington had not yet started using Open Table, despite appearing on the app and confirming my reservation. The restaurant's decor was basic and not up to par with other sit-down restaurants in the area. The dim lighting gave diners a sickly appearance. The sweet potato pakora was bland and needed salt, which was not provided at the table. When I requested salt, it took ten minutes for it to be brought with a comment about not needing it before in the restaurant's six weeks of operation. Overall, the experience was disappointing due to the lack of attention to detail and customer service.
We used a Groupon to check out the new restaurant and it was fantastic. We arrived around 8:45 PM and the place was empty, so we had it all to ourselves. The service was fast and the food was delicious, especially the crispy crab ragoons!
