Family of 16 celebrating a Birthday. We made reservations and they put us all on one table which is good. The best dish is the two course Peking Duck dinner. Other dishes are OK. Service was not so good, not enough staff. Maybe, someone called in sick. We had to keep calling the waiter for service. We got complimentary pork bone soup and sweet tapioca soup dessert after the meal. View all feedback.
What Анатолій Пономарчук doesn't like about Grand Lake Chinese Cuisine & Banquet:
Was here for for a family dinner. Despite a 6:30 reservation, we didn't get seated until after 7 pm. Food overall not bad. Presentation was so-so, food came out quite promptly, but service for things like water, was slow. Interesting fish and crab/lobster tanks for kids to see. View all feedback.
Really good Dim Sum with some lovely seafood options..but not sure it's worth the wait. If you go on a Sunday get there early as the wait times an get long.
Grand lakes is your run of the mill Chinese banquet restaurant with cookie cutter decor and atmosphere; it could be located in almost any part of the world, but on this occasion was Unionville (Ontario). This is not the type of restaurant you would expect groups of non-chinese to visit. Infact, I am almost always the only Caucasian in the entire restaurant when I frequent these establishments. We turned up in a medium sized group for this type of restaurant (9) with no kids/babies on this occasion. All of the staff is Chinese (unsurpringly) and mostly Cantonese, although some speak fluent English. On to the menu, which was available in both Chinese and English, which I appreciated because it isn't common. Overall, the food was reasonable and what you might expect for these prices. I personally enjoyed the duck, while my friends' favourite was the lobster (see photo).A minor issue we encountered was the square plates, which adorned our large rotating table and consequently kept knocking over our tea!Our main criticism was coarse service. For example, the waiting staff would barge past you as they hastily put down the plates and there was little concern for refilling tea pots and clearing away empty plates.SUMMARY: standard/typical Chinese banquet with good duck/lobster and poor service.+ Some tasty dishes (duck/lobster)+ Relatively quick service+ Free WiFi available (which is always a plus for the traveller)+ Flexible set menu- Bland decor- Very noisy (but what can you expect?)- Coarse waiting staff- Square plates, which kept knocking over cups
Considering what you pay for dim sum, this place is not bad. Good value. Service is good. Cleanliness is so so.
All the foods are very salty. The fish is overcooked, the lobster and the crab are not fresh. Service is terrible! Will never go back again!
