Stopped here for a quick lunch. This is a chain of restaurants located thorughout Canada, US and China. I had two items:A3 Champion Braised Beef with Noodle in Tomato Soup - On a cold rainy day, a good bowl of noodle soup always hits the spot. I got the flat noodle which was thick and a bit chewy (which I like,) but still properly cooked. Soup was flavorful without being too salty or oily. Braised beef was OK, but only 4 pieces, which seemed a bit cheap.D11 Deep Fried Chicken Nuggets - Nice and crisp coating with tender meat. Good amount of seasoning. It was a standard service level for a Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant (which is lower level than any standard North American restaurant service.) They were nice, but not particularly attentive.Space is quite small, so don't bring a large group. Free parking in the adjacent parking lot.Overall, decent food comparable to other Taiwanese restaurants. It's cleaner and nice looking than most, but that's why the dishes are more expensive too.
This noodle house is located at the UBC campus village and is of a poor quality and, I believe,is taking advantage of the close-by student population. We ate there for lunch, had noodles that were chewy to the point of being hard and under-cooked. The broth was flat, oily and almost tasteless. The beef was tough and very hard to eat. They give you a printed sheet of paper upon which to mark you food selections without any explanations about food preparation or other details from the server. After completion, the server collects the slips of paper and turns them in to the kitchen for food preparation. The Vancouver area has many, many Chinese food style restaurant offerings with excellent food at reasonable prices and this is far below the standard expected. We will not return to this restaurant and will not recommend it to others. Our son attends UBC and is posting a similar review of this restaurant in a student residence hall on campus.
My inlaws like to stick to their own favorites (which is becoming my not-so-favorite because of no variety.) So when we happened to be in the UBC area on Canada Day, we tried out this noodle place. Lo and behold my inlaws liked it. Had dumplings, noodles (of course,) green onion pancake, fried chicken, and many more. Faves were the fried chicken - one bite and it reminded me of the ones we had in Taichung, Taiwan. If a dish can bring back the memories of the place you had it before - that is awesome! The kelp appetizer was also delicious -- very fresh and tasty! Ok, I'm getting hungry now. Will be back for sure!
