Palazzo Ranucci - TUSCANIA

If you happen to visit Tuscania this restaurant is a must. The food is excellent and the service impeccable. Eleonora is a perfectionist.

We have been delighted by the creativity of the chef and the quality of the food. Every dish is an experience of taste and design. The menu of the day featured mainly fish and the chef prepared a special vegetarian menu only for me that was really amazing. My mates were definitely impressed by the starter inspired by baccalà , maccheroni allo scoglio and parmigiana di scorfano. Moreover, the staff is outstanding, very professional, kind and nice. Price/quality is a best, really worth while coming again and again.

Posizione elegante, cibo raffinato, pulizia, gentilezza e ottima compagnia. Vista mozzafiato dalla terrazza del Palazzo Ranucci. Vacanza indimenticabile. Complimenti agli organizzatori. Sicuramente torneremo in questo posto da favola.

Having been here many, many times, we were gutted 3 years ago when the place closed. About 2 years ago it reopened, under new management, a catering company. If you are going by old guidebooks (like Fred Plotkin's Italy for teh Gourmet Traveller) you should be aware of this change. Ranucci still has teh best view in town- the terrace is spectacular with fantastic views of the town and countryside. However, that for me is the only reason now to come here. If you can't sit on the terrace (in winter, because it's full) I wouldn't bother, as there is better food, at better prices, in several other places in town. The last time I was here the dishes were mostly classic- nothing imaginative, and not worth the hefty price tag.

We have visited Tuscania twice in the past on our way up to Saturnia from Rome. On those prior visits we very much enjoyed dining at Palazzo Ranucci, a restaurant which local people told us was the best in town. On this last visit we learned that the old restaurant in Palazzo Ranucci closed several years ago, and was reopened last year under new management, a catering company that serves three meals per week. We decided to try it out. The view from the terrace, as always, is spectacular. Service was friendly, but a bit slow. The food, while certainly okay, was not nearly as good as it was in the old restaurant. Suggestions: Palazzo Ranucci is located on a side street with rough and uneven cobblestones; be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.
