Was Jillian MacKillop at Charrovida a mag?
I always love their food. They have great flavor and portions. I love going their with my vegan/vegetarian friends because their items start vegan and then you can add meat if you like. This last visit the service was off from their usual. We only saw our waitress at the start and end of the meal. Another waitress brought out the food and we were not able to get drink refills. Usually they are more attentive. Still on... What Linda Brinegar dislikes about Charrovida:
Beautifully appointed restaurant in a lovely grouping of other eateries and shops. Our hostess and waitress seemed irritated at our questions. She was short with us even though there was only one other table of guests. The food was mediocre at best. Bland. The chickpeas and rice that came with the meals were seasoned with only garlic which left everything tasting harsh and the same. I am a chef and had excitedly plan... View all feedback.

Nice space but the service is extremely poor and the managing staff are RUDE. I have been wanting to try this restaurant as the offerings looked promising. When we arrived at lunch the staff were no where to be found, dining room not even half full. Someone finally came to greet us and turns out they could not help us and were put off that they had to even engage with us. A staff from behind the bar finally came and sat us at a table in the very back of the restaurant, a room off the bar that was loud with music and dark. After no one coming to greet us at our table we got up to ask if we could be seated in the actual dinning space where everyone else was. The person behind the bar told us, yeah, go ahead, you are going to do what you want to any way. I asked, what??? The person then again basically repeated the same thing. We set our menus down on the bar and said we were done, the person mockingly told us to have a nice day and was clearly done with us. We have NO IDEA why were treated in this manner. The very few engagements we had with staff we were very pleasant and calm. Clearly the restaurant was under staffed and the people they had working there were not happy about something and taking it out on the customers. WE WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS PLACE AGAIN! Bright side, there was another restaurant in the same plaza and the lemon's they gave us turned into lemon aid wound up having the most amazing meal and service we have ever had at the other restaurant in the same plaza I guess thanks Charro Vida for running us off and giving us a new favorite restaurant.
This is a regular breakfast for us. Food is very good particularly if you eat healthy and have dietary restrictions. Lately, staffing issues likely are causing the normally excellent level of service to drop off sharply. Today service was incredibly slow.Vegetarian options: Mostly vegan options.Dietary restrictions: They are very flexible wrt substitions.
Now, onto the food—oh my goodness!!! We started with yucca street fries and shared a hemp tamale, and then we both ordered the three sisters taco plates with mushroom tacos. The flavors were out of this world, and everything tasted incredibly fresh, as if the vegetables had just been picked that morning! I was initially hesitant about the Hola Hemp tamale, but it exceeded my expectations! My only minor complaint is that the yucca fries came with salt when we specifically requested none. Since we're both sensitive to salt, even a little can make dining out tricky. Sorry, no pictures this time—we were too busy enjoying the delicious food and didn’t have an Instagram-worthy snap to share. But we did take some leftovers home! I think we've found our new favorite restaurant! Update: We visited during Sonoran Restaurant Week. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t quite as stellar. The chef might have had an off night, or perhaps it was the timing (something we’ve noticed in Tucson), but this time our tortillas were cold and the food was lukewarm. Also, despite specifying no salt on the yucca fries, there was a pile of salt and pepper at the bottom of the bowl. Please improve on this! Our first visit was so promising at CharroVida, and I hope you can maintain that level of quality moving forward.
