I certainly heard mixed reviews prior to my visit to Mexicali Blues. I came in mid afternoon on a Saturday. The hostess greeted me as I entered. I advised her that I was just going to grab a seat at the bar. It wasn't crowded at all. The bartender was spot on. He took my drink order and gave me a food menu. Good customer service throughout! I wasn't really hungry. I ordered some chips and queso just to try something.... View all feedback.

I would have given less stars, but the staff was friendly and the watermelon margarita was delicious! eating was very disappointing. I ordered the guacamole, carnitas taco and chicken tinga taco. the guacamole needed salt. it was very spoiled. the blandness continued with the carnitas and chicken tinga. the flesh was not only dirty, but watery?! I ordered the maistortillas on the tacos and they came out cold. (just f... View all feedback.
The taco salad was delicious but felt a bit too casual, almost like eating soup. The rice was undercooked and tasteless. The drink selection was limited to Latin American brands, and there were an excessive 17 different types of tequila for the market. On a positive note, the service was good, quick, and friendly.
I really enjoyed my visit to Mexicali Blues. Located in the rapidly growing entertainment district of Trussville, it’s a great addition to the area. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant; however, I was a bit disappointed that their outdoor seating wasn’t always available, depending on the day. The staff was very friendly, and we didn’t have to wait long to be seated or to receive our food. I tried two or three different types of tacos, and they were all delicious. A standout for me was their queso—it might be the best I’ve ever had at a restaurant! The only downside is that I found the prices a bit high; the tacos range from $5 to $6 each, and that’s without any sides. Keep in mind that the total meal cost can add up quickly, but if you’re aware of that, you’ll enjoy your dining experience here.
I had a wonderful experience! The host was welcoming, our server was fantastic, and the food was exceptional. I can't wait to dine here again!

I wasn't really hungry. I ordered some chips and queso just to try something. The chips were warm and crispy. The queso had a nice flavor. It was the perfect light snack with a margarita. The tropical frozen margarita was extremely refreshing and perfect! I even got a brain freeze ... it was great! Mexicali Blues definitely screams upscale Mexican restaurant. I enjoyed my visit and I plan to return soon!
They processed about 5 to go orders that were ordered wayyyy after my meal. Very upset. Manager didn’t show any empathy or offer anything for my inconvenience. Will never come back. Unfortunately the food is pretty good if you don’t have this experience
