The most underrated, hidden gem in Truckee! The food (Chili Cheese Dog, Beer Cheese Pretzel, and Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup) was phenomenal. Cooked to order… we absolutely loved everything. Over forty beer taps featuring local breweries!! Warm tummies and happy hearts. Honestly though… its the owner who makes this review worth 5 stars. What Bill Thompson doesn't like about The Hoppy Duck:
Stopped by for a quick round...gal and guy at bar were jerks...WAY too many places to enjoy in Truckee. I have never left a full pint behind...watering holes are all about enjoying people...and if that's what you're looking for A VOID this place. View all feedback.
Austin, the owner/bartender was very friendly and the selection of beer was great. The bar was beautiful as well.Austin even made reservations for us to eat at a great restaurant in Tahoe City called Sunnyside Restaurant where we were seated at a table with a lake view. Thank you so much Austin, we were treated very well and will definitely stop in again at The Hoppy Duck next time we are in the area.

Friendly bartender, yummy Bavarian pretzel, delicious stout. Great stop!
Staying at the Ritz-Carlton at Northstar, wanted to try a much different experience, a true locals experience to watch the game and drink some beer and eat some food. There's a lot of other options more upscale, geared towards visitors with more gourmet food than burgers, chicken fingers, and fries, but if you want simple tavern food with a huge beer selection and to hangout amongst locals and not tourists, this IS the place to go. I can't emphasize how great the beer/cider selection is. Wine available too I believe. A totally casual Apres-Ski local hangout. Not a big place with a lot of room to sit so get there early or be prepared for standing room only during peak times.
Great beer selection and a burger that is unbelievable.
