It has extensive and well spread out external seating giving views over the plateau, as well as a spacious interior. On the evening that we visited there was live music from a pianist.The menu is flavoursome, and some of it is creative. The whole environment is a welcome change.We found it to be particularly good value, including the wine list pricing.

After French troops were withdrawn from Germany, the military area on top of the mountain has been completely renewed and rebuilt. It has become a fashionable and expensive housing quarter in Trier (you can overlook the city and the Mosel river) as well as home to many new companies and startups in former German barracks (German soldiers were here before they lost WW II and the French took over). Monte Petris is a modern building and it serves a modern "bistronomic" cuisine: good products at decent prices without too much show around it. It has a big terrace with tables and comfortable lounge chairs which is a perfect place to look at the Mosel vineyards in the valley. Families are welcome, there is a playground for smaller children as well. Food ranges from the traditional alsatian Flammkuchen (Tarte flambée) via a toasted Ciabatta with sheep's cheese and honey (delicious) to a really huge Schnitzel as it should be (and most Schnitzel are not, unfortunately). Service is very friendly and efficient, easygoing and unobtrusive. Can even be reached by bus from the city centre, nice uphill walk as well with spectacular views across Germany's oldest city.

I can only recommend this restaurant if you visit Trier. And Trier is a beautiful city you do not want to miss.

Today I wanted to redeem my loyalty card 13th lunch is FREE because I 'd eaten there 12 times in the last few months. When I went to pay, they told me the promotion had been discontinued a month ago and that they 'd informed the regulars how is that even logistically possible? . Since we 'd also planned our Christmas party there for a Friday in December and had already reserved a table in November , without receiving any notification they hadn 't taken down our number , I complained about that as well. The owner just shrugged, not even offering a complimentary espresso... The salad was also meager, with only two dry slices of white bread. It 's no wonder some restaurants close down.
