G. Kelly, a venerable establishment serving classic British fare since the 1920s, offers a taste of authentic East End cuisine with its famed pies, mash, and liqueur. While many appreciate the affordable vegan options, including cakes and the unique parsley liquor, some patrons note a decline in the flavor of the traditional meat pies since recent renovations. The charming atmosphere adds to the experience, although hygiene concerns regarding self-service cutlery exist. Despite mixed reviews on specific dishes, G. Kelly remains a notable stop for those seeking a quintessential London dining experience.

We visited Kelly's yesterday for the first time in months. They are open for takeaway only so we got pie mash for three, including two veggie pies, to takeaway. We drove there and managed to park down Roman Road as there was no market on Wednesday. We ate lunch at home and it was still as delicious as always. Kelly's are open 6 days out of 7 and accept cash payment but prefer card

Visited G Kelly’s as I was in the East End on a pub and sightseeing day down from Nottingham. I’m not going to claim to be an expert in pie and mash as I grew up well outside the sound of the Bow Bells! The shop is on the Roman Road and near West Ham’s ground. It has a traditional front and is immaculate. The inside is tiled with chrome and pictures of the original owners and photos from the past. It is in immaculate condition and is very clean. We were warmly greeted on our first ever visit and sat down on the clean marble table. The shop does the usual pies and eels and also does a vegan mince pie. We ordered two vegan pies, mash, liquor and a cup of tea. The food was served quickly. It was piping hot and lovely. The pies have a great pastry, the mash is smooth and the liquor has a great consistency. At £10 for two meals with a drink, it’s very good value. Many of the other customers were clearly regulars on first name terms with the staff. There was decent ‘banter’ and laughs between customers who knew each other. The tea is served on a platter and is Yorkshire. Very good. You can see in to the kitchen which is clean, the toilet was immaculate. This is a proper, traditional east end pie and mash shop with tasty warm comforting food in a clean, friendly environment. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back. Thanks!

This restaurant is known for its traditional East End dishes such as pies and mash, and jellied eels. It's a long-standing and well-respected establishment that offers a true taste of London. I'm not certain if they offer pale ale on their menu, but it's definitely worth a visit for a quintessential London dining experience.
