Contribute FeedbackNestled alongside the picturesque Tarka Trail, this café is a charming spot for weary travelers seeking refreshments. While the inviting setting and delicious cakes, particularly the renowned homemade apple cake, earn it praise, experiences with service reveal a mixed bag. Customers have noted slow service, occasional menu limitations, and minor hygiene concerns. Many appreciate the café's healthy offerings but desire friendlier staff interactions. Despite inconsistencies, locals return for coffee, cake, and relaxing lunches outdoors. Overall, it’s a delightful pit stop for cyclists and walkers, promising enjoyable food against the backdrop of beautiful countryside.
We stopped here whilst cycling to Torrington. What a wonderful little cafe. Very friendly staff and an excellent cream tea. The prices were extremely reasonable and there is a lovely outdoor seating area.
I stayed at this place twice while biking the Devon Coast to Coast route. There is a small hostel building, a cafe, and a camping field. The hosts were excellent and they are licensed to serve drinks in the evening. If you are camping or staying here, you can order a delicious breakfast in the morning outside of cafe hours, and the same goes for an evening meal. I highly recommend staying here if you have the opportunity, it's a hidden gem. To show that this review is not biased, my only suggestion would be to reseed the camping field as it can be tricky to find a spot without tussock grass, but I managed on both nights.
We strolled over to the café and settled in the lovely, tranquil garden. The three of us enjoyed delicious baguettes, and our canine companion loved the doggy treats. We also treated ourselves to generous servings of ice cream before heading out. We will definitely be coming back again.
This was the second time we have visited the cafe since the new owners, last time we waited over an hour for our snacks to arrive, very annoyed as the menu is very simple. This time we went giving them the benefit of the doubt, having cycled a long distance. They informed us they had no change when we offered a note, after checking all my pockets, I found I was thirty pence short of the price. They offered no solution. So we left disappointed yet again. An absolute shambles.
This is the place to stop! A gentle Saturday morning ride up from Torrington with family, we stopped here at coffee and a nibble bacon baguette both were amazing. Service with a smile, coffee that is rich, full bodied and tasty, bacon with flavour served with a fresh leaf salad and lovely dressing. We will be back...lots!
