I spotted this res... read more We had some time to kill in Torrelavega and were looking for somewhere to eat. We had looked at the main square and decided against the bars. I spotted this restaurant and liked the look of it. We stood outside and waited for the waitress to show us to our seats. It was a hot day and sitting outside under their shelter outdoor sitting area was nice. As non-Spanish speaking English tourists, our 9-year old son had the best understanding from 3 weeks on Duolingo and a few lessons at school, we set about using a mixture of hand gestures and Google translate to get served. The service was speedy and done in a cheery manner. The menu was a set 2 or 3 courses. My wife managed to convey that we would like 2 x 3-courses and a extra plate for our son. After going through the menu for things he would eat, not overly fussy but likes pasta, we ordered. We were not sure what would arrive but we were more than pleased with out starters. I had a chorizo and pasta in a very tasty tomato sauce and my wife had a goat's cheese salad. Both were large and delightfully presented. My son wolfed down half my pasta and the bread that came with the meal. Next was our mains: sorrento ham, fried eggs and chips for my wife and chicken and chips for me. The chips were beautifully cooked and the chicken succulent. My son chopped through half of my dish, although the ham wasn't to anyone's taste, other than mine! The desserts were excellent too! The bottled water and wine (which we didn't have as we were driving) came as part of the meal as well. The toilets were clean and tidy. Overall, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Restaurante 2Valdeses! Superb!

There’s always room for improvement however there are many factors that made this place a good choice for a couple’s night out. We arrived with no reservation on a Saturday night and were told by the Maître; which was very kind and accommodating once she knew our situation, to wait few minutes which we took advantage of to order some drinks at the bar area. We were led to our table in one of the dining rooms; there are two and the one we were located at had sheer curtains to separate some of the tables which were to some extent pretty close to each other and that’s the reason I don’t give them the fifth star because I consider highly important the sense of personal space, especially when you want to have private conversations with those in the dining table with you while having your meal, however it’s just my appreciation. We were presented with two different menus at different prices and I must tell you that I don’t get the few fellas that have something wrong to say about the food because to begin with the prices we are talking about; one menu 16€ and the other 26€ included a vast variety of dishes to choose from that included a glass of wine and water, you won’t find them beyond Spanish borders. Same menu in France, for example, will cost around the double or triple per person. The carpaccio was really good and nicely presented as the rest of the dishes. As main dish we both ordered fish ones. Great flavor too and to end the chocolate dessert, yummy yummy! Overall food was good. I’d recommend to present the olive oil in a glass bottle since plastic changes the original flavor plus in a nice restaurant everything must go in accordance with the image. If food was great the service it’s even greater. Props to the waitresses and the maître. Highly recommended if you are stopping by Torrelavega. We’ll most likely return. Guided by TripAdvisor, we tracked this place down and it was well worth it (the town is between Santander and Oveido). We were made very welcome, we had the most patient and helpful waitress (all the wait staff were), and the food and wines excellent and bargain prices! Definitely worth tracking down if you need a tasty meal in the middle of the day. The place was packed so if you want to eat there, you might book ahead.

The decoration and environment is easy on the eye and friendly without much stuff keeping the attention out of the food. The services was fast and friendly including the difficulties for accomodating not one but two baby prams. It was really easy to get into the restaurant as the entrance is step free. The menu is a bit strange at first but really easy to follow once explain and gives enough choice for anyone from vegan to carnivore. My personal recomendation will be the Merluza rellena which was actually delicious.
