What Jess Thompson dislikes about The Bread Essentials:
WAY too expensive for a croissant and chocolate croissant that are tiny. Yes they are gluten free and vegan, but man. I have had luxurious pastries before (for these luxurious prices). This is about as good as if I made it myself. $4.25 for something sooo tiny and dense. These two tiny boxes cost me $60 (incl gratuity and tax). No. Just no. View all feedback.

We have been eating here for years. excellent gluten-free foundations that we can get nowhere else - croissants, tarts, authentic quebec tourtierre, maishunde, rinderpatties. many vegan options also. also the personal treats them like family.
Best flour ever for baking! Bread is amazing as well as all the treat! Even gf croissants!!!

This fantastic bakery is located in a trendy area on Royal York Rd. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. They offer a delicious variety of homemade baked goods—be sure to try the crullers—as well as a selection of packaged items.
I just received my first order from Bread Essentials, and I am absolutely amazed! It's been over ten years since I've enjoyed bagels or baguettes because of autoimmune issues that prevent me from eating gluten or dairy. I know that gluten-free products tend to be smaller and pricier due to ingredient costs, but these are crafted so well! I truly can't tell the difference! The customer service was outstanding, and my order arrived right on time. I will definitely be a regular here!
This is the best gluten-free bakery I’ve ever come across. Everything I tried was fantastic—less dense than many others and not at all crumbly.

I’ve shopped at The Bread Essentials for years now, but last weekend they prepared ALL of the food for my 50th birthday celebration. They were so flexible, when I realized a few friends were vegan, they added some goodies for them. I was the only celiac everyone expected cardboard, styrofoam, the jokes were endless. At the end of the afternoon, all of the custard tarts, cake, spanakopita, croissants, pogo sticks, the list goes on, were gone. Clearly for the non celiac, gluten free can be fabulous! I can’t say enough about how they contributed to a really straightforward experience (and hey, I’m 50 now too! .

My partner and I happened upon this charming place for a quick snack after an appointment—and we ended up leaving with three bags of food! I didn't catch their names, but the three wonderful women who assisted us (while simultaneously baking up a storm) were exceptionally hospitable, helpful, and genuinely friendly. Beyond the fantastic service, the food itself was outstanding; the bread, cinnamon rolls, croissants, and even special items like homemade pickles were incredible. The croissant was the best I've ever had in my life. To top it all off, the chef generously offered us a complimentary loaf, making our first visit even more memorable. We can't wait to return, and we highly recommend you give it a try as well!
I absolutely love the variety of options available here—there are plenty of items that are hard to find elsewhere! I tried creton for the first time, and although I was a bit hesitant since I’ve had pâté before and never enjoyed it, I actually liked this. The little croissants are fantastic too; they’re the perfect size for a delightful treat. I’ll definitely be returning!
I visited this place on Saturday after hearing great reviews about their gluten-free baked goods, and I wasn't let down! Today, I tried their chicken pot pie, and it was absolutely delicious! The owner is wonderful and took the time to show me all her products. I will definitely return for more!
This bakery recently opened a block from my house. Everything I've had is outstanding. The croissant are perhaps the best I've had in Toronto, definitely the best in the West end. I can't recommend it highly enough for those living on the West side of the city.
