What Tatjana Freund doesn't like about Steeles Deli Restaurant:
Wow! This is not the Steeles Deli it used to be! It keeps on getting worse. I thought I would give it one more chance but will never return. They should change the name....A complete insult to the original owner Les! Ordered Knishes, chopped liver, potato salad for take out and couldn't even eat it! Threw it all out in the garbage. A total waste of $40 View all feedback.

I was wondering by and saw the all day breakfast sign. But they do not open until 10am. Lucky for me it was almost 11am.Place was empty but several more people showed up as I ate.The deli counter was empty so it was unclear if they still do that.My food was just okay. I would not return as there are better places in the area to get breakfast a little earlier.
My husband and I visited Steeles Deli for dinner with another couple before going to a movie On May 11th. We had visited the restaurant a week or so before and both ordered the liver and onions and thought it was delicious, perfectly prepared medium rare and served with fresh vegetable and mashed potatoes it was a hearty and delicious dinner. We also purchased some chopped liver from their take out counter and took it home. It was also delicious. So..on May 11th we suggested to our friends that it was a good location for a quick reasonable priced dinner before a movie. I decided to have spareribs and my husband chose to have the liver again. One of our friends ordered meat loaf and the other a salad. Everyone found their dinners good. There were some items that were not available. The waitress said this was because they had been closed for a couple of days because their oven was broken and had just reopened at 4 pm that day. We happily bought more chopped liver to take home and went to the movies with our friends. A few days later it comes to light that the restaurant had been closed by the Heath Department after inspection revealed a long list of infractions. Well..we did not get sick before or after the closing so I guess either we have strong guts, were just lucky or the infractions were less serious than reported. We will definitely go back.
Once upon a time you went to steeles deli and had great food but with the new owners things have sure changed. They are very dirty and was recently closed down by the health department in violation of 20 plus infractions! So sad that these new owners take advantage of their patrons in a dangerous way- make sure food and restaurant cleanliness is visible to the naked eye or you may be at risk
I haven't been to SDW since my family moved away from the area several years ago. When trying to decide where to take a friend for her birthday lunch today, I remembered the fantastic liver and onions and knew where we were going today! We were not disappointed..... The food was even better than I remembered. The liver and onions were "for fainting", the mashed potatoes were real and delicious and the side veggies were fresh and crunchy. Today's soup (green pea) was better than my own, and I thought mine was great..This family restaurant is a hidden gem and deserves to be re-discovered. You will not be disappointed! I know I will certainly be back soon and my next adventure will be their ribs!
