Prop is like a second home for our family. Remember the show "Cheers"? It's like that. When we come in we are welcomed with hugs and kisses from Marlene, one of the owners. Her husband Giancarlo (of Giancarlo's, College Street Bar and Olive & Lemon fame) blows us kisses through the kitchen window. We always find something delicious. From the caesar salad that delights all four of us (my kids are 9 and 11) to the pasta and side dishes we love, we are never disappointed. Can't find a wine you like on the menu? ASK! Marlene will find you a perfect pairing. Enjoy the patio in the summer and the warm tables with benches inside through the winter. It is a family-owned and run business and they make us feel like we are family too. We even through both of our 40th birthday parties there and had a BLAST! Prop owners and staff will meet all of your needs.
After a long night of travel (missed trains, etc.), I stopped at Prop for a meal only to find the kitchen was closed. The waitress had the chef double her dinner order so that I could eat as well. What wonderful hospitality, and what delicious food (pasta with fresh mushrooms)!
Six of us ventured to Prop for a summer evening dinner. Practically everything about the place was bad even for a local bistro. Hard to believe that they can get away with this in a sophisticated city like Toronto. The service was acceptable but the food all around the table was not. They can't even seem to make a decent pasta. Pretty incredible considering their name. They didn't even have chilled wine in a hot summer night. As Caesar's closest advisor said to him on that fateful day on his way to the Forum: I told him Julie don't go!
I went to Malabar in search of costumes for a work assignment. I needed costumes, accessories, and props for a two-day photo shoot.
