Number One Chinese Restaurant - Toronto

Good, consistently delicious Western Chinese Food. Have been visiting this restaurant for a number of years. Located in our wonderful neighborhood, we have enjoyed various dishes. Chicken balls and fried rice is my personal favourite.

Greektown isn't exactly the kind of place where you'd expect to find great Chinese food. So, when I stopped by this place expecting to find a passable meal you can imagine my look of surprise when I was treated to a very above-average meal for a surprisingly-good price. They have a lot of choices on their dinner menu but the combo plates at the front of the menu were what caught my attention. I chose the #4 meal (egg roll, chicken balls, fried rice, chicken chop suey) and was given a very large plate of quality stuff. The meal was less than $10 (before taxes - I can't remember if it went over that after taxes) and I was absolutely full. It's sad that I almost chose the McDonalds down the street where I would have spent more for a far-crappier meal that wouldn't have been anywhere near as filling. I will be visiting the Number One Chinese Restaurant in the future. I'm pleased to finally have a trust-worthy non-Greek restaurant in Greektown.

A couple caveats here...its take-out, Westernized Chinese food...so chicken balls, fried rice, that sort of thing. Also, you're not going here for the crazy friendly service, because its the opposite of crazy and friendly.That said, when we want our chicken ball, fried rice, sweet and sour pork, etc. fix...this is the only place we go to. Everything is consistently good. I'll often use the quality of the chicken ball to determine my satisfaction...excellent chicken to ball ratio, good quality meat, and tasty ball.Great neighborhood Chinese food place...reasonably priced and great food...just don't expect a smile!

I have lived in this neighbourhood for 16 years but just recently discovered Number One. I keep trying different dishes and all are consistently good. Your must try this restaurant or takeout.

I have been coming to Number One for the past year. I really enjoyed their lunch special and I came here regularly with a friend. We both enjoyed it. When another friend and I were thinking about a place to eat, and knowing he was quite specific in his food tastes, I hesitatingly suggested we try Number One. Boy we were not disappointed. The two choices we had were both very tasty and all fresh. The spicy fish plate was terrific. I picked up the tab just so I would not feel badly taking the leftovers home for tomorrows lunch. And they were even better the next day!~.
