Finally! A restaurant that you can count on to provide top quality food, excellent service, great ambiance, all at a very reasonable price. Thank you Melanie for giving us your lovely bistro! We visit once a year in June for a team brunch following the Walk to Fight Arthritis. This year was no exception - our waitress, Cassey, was AWESOME. It was absolutely no problem for her to do separate bills even when we had assorted couples scattered around the table and even when several of us switched spots during the meal to visit ... somehow Cassey kept track of us and got the bills to the proper people. And that was on "no-advanced-warning basis" since I forgot to ask in advance for separate bills. What a difference from other restaurants who mumble and grown or even refuse if you ask for separate bills! The menu has a very wide variety of delicious items, all beautifully presented. I couldn't decide among the waffles (with optional berries and breakfast meat), pecan crusted French toast (on a huge piece of fancy bread and mounded with fresh raspberries, blueberries and strawberries), eggs benedict (with delicious pear salad and a cup of fresh berries), eggs florentine (no one ordered that so I'll have to see it next time),! steak and eggs, Newfoundland breakfast with cod cakes, omelettes or a regular bacon and egg breakfast, among other things.Melanie is very present in the restaurant ... she usually stops by the table to introduce herself and make sure we are enjoying our meal.If I lived closer, I'd be at Melanie's every weekend, and bring along a friend for a great chat and a lovely meal. Too bad it's mostly a once-a-year-at-the-walk event for us since we live way over in Etobicoke!Keep up the great work, Melanie ... you're in a class of your own in the Toronto breakfast restaurant scene!

My tummy is easily upset so I am always leery of "eating out" but this place is pristine in its cleanliness, provides attentive service and in the 8 years I have been coming here, the food has always been of a stellar quality and never upset my tubes. The sort of place that a trained chef would run. (Did I mention that Melanie worked 12 years as a pastry chef and her husband was a chef at the Royal York Hotel for 10 years)? Reasonably priced because after all it is on the Danforth, not downtown or uptown. Everything is yummy, love the burger, the curry chicken wrap, steak, lamb, cod/eggs, omelettes - NOT BAR FOOD. My only complaint is that they never seem to offer the carrot cake with the cream cheese icing or the dinner curry anymore but still, five stars!
Friends and I met for dinner at Melanie's at the suggestion of one friend who had been there before. As it was a bitterly cold evening, there were only a few tables occupied. The menu, while not extensive, offers good variety with some inventive items such as a watermelon, feta and arugula salad. Our server offered us the prix fixe option of $28 for a 3-course dinner, allowing choice of any starter, any main and any dessert! I opted for the roasted beet and mesclun salad and the strozzapreti with handmade lamb meatballs in a plum tomato, oregano and olive tapenade sauce. I finished up with creme brulée. A delicious meal!
We attended a wine club dinner, so we did not try the normal menu or wine list. We had a fixed 5 course dinner with matching wines. All of the food was very good and the service was great. We definitely want to return.
