If you love Chirashi, this is the place to go. Though I hear it's not as good as it used to be (I only started coming here in recent years), this is still my fav place for Chirashi. Each bowl is loaded with fresh, high quality ingredients. Chirashi aside, they also serve amazing curry dishes and tofu cheesecakes.Sure, there are cheaper options out there, but in the case of sushi, you do typically get what you pay for... A very cute and cozy restaurant. From the outside, you cannot tell it's a restaurant, more a place for dessert or just a coffee. The name of the restaurant also indicates it's a cafe. But their food is as good as their dessert.Ordered some set dinner , it comes with salad and dessert. Each dish is carefully prepared and with great presentation. Quality is good but of course cannot compare to Japan. It's hard to get fresh sashimi in Toronto. Their curry is delicious and not spicy... Perfect for me. We ordered an extra bowl of rice just to finish the curry sauceMy favorite is their blueberry cheesecake. Will definitely go back for more cake
This is an authentic cozy restaurant tucked away in a small plaza selling great Japanese food. You definitely need a reservation for busy times - we made one for a Friday night and saw more than 10 groups get turned away because of a lack of reservation. We had the unatama, chirashi (more expensive one) and hotpot. The hotpot was nothing too special but the don and chirashi were both amazing. The chirashi in particular was very fresh and had good variety, especially big as well. The cake combo is highly recommended - their cakes are so fluffy and not overloaded with sugar which is to die for. Service was also very caring. The place is a bit on the pricy side but definitely worth it.
Ever since I came here for the first time, every time when I want to enjoy some cosy times with my family or friends, I would come here. Why is that so? 1) The food here is not cheap but affordable, tasty, attends to details and has everything we need for a full meal and especially different choices of desserts. 2) I can enjoy the view of the park across the street and especially the colorful maple leaves in the fall, reminding me of my pleasant visits in Japan 3) It has a small counter for selling crafts and fashion jewellery that carries a somewhat Japanese style. 4) The eatery has limited seats and provides a homey atmosphere. I have kept reminding myself about two issues: 1) Call and do my booking in advance. 2) They close fairly early, that is, at 8.45 p.m. May you enjoy the visit there as much as I do!
* This place is NOT CHEAP - but neither is the quality. I get what I pay for.* This is an authentically Japanese owned restaurant - not Chinese owned. So you know it's sushi done right.* This place is TINY. If you do not have reservations then be prepared to be turned away* This place gets BUSY fast at dinner time. Be prepared that at times service will slow down so please do not take it out on the friendly and patient waitresses.* Desserts are home-madeLe Café Michi reminds me so much of my previous favourite sushi restaurant Zen.Zen was an authentically Japanese owned hole in a Scarborough dive mall but had superior sushi quality and fantastic udon. It was also tiny and every single dining experience I had involved watching dozens of customers being turned away if they didn't have reservations. Zen has since moved to Markham, changed their menu and jacked up their prices. So Le Café Michi has become my go-to for sushi. Prices are a little bit more steep than what I used to pay at Zen, but honestly it's all worth it. I always order their chirashi bowl ($38.95) and have yet to find a chirashi bowl in any restaurant better than this:- begins with a layer of sushi rice,- a layer of bbq eel- another layer of rice- a layer of very thin egg omelette- then topped with ebi, hamachi, tuna, squid, tuna, white snapper, pieces of uni, shrimp, octupus, fish or salmon roe and scallop. And they always top it with their signature mushroom which is really just a ball of rice coated with thinly sliced tuna sashimi and dotted with wasabi tuna.My daughter loves to switch between their cute, 3-tiered Cochin bento box (crispy karaage chicken, bbq eel with rice, sushi - $26.695) or the seafood udon hot pot ($23.95). All meals come with:- coffee or tea- salad- choice of desserts which are all reportedly home-madeTheir green tea crème brulee is special and addictive. Texture is perfectly silky and melts in your mouth.Their tofu cheesecake tastes like a light cheesecake with no hint of tofu flavor. Weird but good.Their fruit cake is also nice and light. Next time I would like to try their Sake chocolate cake and their Green Tea cake.As mentioned it's tiny and can get busy really fast and sometimes there's only 2 waitresses. Our dinner started off fairly quick and smooth but towards the end, it took 30 mins of waiting and asking and waiting for them to bring our desserts and the bill. I've watched the waitresses spend a lot of time gently turning customers away who have no reservations. It's constant so I completely get that it's not their fault that we had to wait so long, especially when they are so nice and courteous under all that stress and pressure.
